JOB SUMMARY:
The Stillwater Preoperative Clinic (SPC) RN is a member of the Same Day Surgery department whose role is focused on assessing the patient and developing a plan of care designed to meet the pre-anesthesia physical, psychological, educational, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of the patient/family/significant other. The primary role is to gather information from the patient, other healthcare providers, and electronic medical records. Interviewing and assessment techniques are used to identify potential or actual problems that may occur. The pre-anesthesia nursing assessment identifies areas that the patient lacks optimization and works with physician's offices and anesthesia services to prepare the patient for surgery. The nurse works as a member of the health care team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Oklahoma.
  • Preferred BSN.
  • Current BLS or certification within 30 days of employment.
  • ACLS certification or completion within 1 year of employment.
  • PALS certification or completion within 1 year of employment.
  • 2-3 years successful nursing practice in surgical services.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to work at a fast pace and adjust to changing workflow assignments.
  • Must have adequate perception of sounds or adequate hearing with corrections.
  • Must be able to talk and hear to converse with others, in person, and over the telephone.
  • Adequate vision, or correctable with glasses/contacts, to prepare, process, and read written materials.
  • Must demonstrate adequate stamina to deal with stressful situations and to complete necessary work schedule.
  • Must be able to triage multiple tasks/events; prioritize and make decisions quickly under stressful situations with accuracy.
  • Able to identify occupational hazards and use safety precautions.
  • Able to bend, lift, stoop as needed to assist with patients.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Able to pay attention to detail.
