Registered Nurse - Pre Anesthesia Testing

Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager, Director, the Outpatient Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in an outpatient setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assesses patients either attending the outpatient clinic or via phone interview, to prepare the patient for anesthesia and the surgical process. This may include conducting preoperative assessments such as medical and surgical history, current medications, allergies, lab result review/ordering, and overall anesthesia risk evaluation prior to surgery.
  • Follows the Peri-Anesthesia Testing Guidelines and surgeon orders. In person clinic patients will have complete physical assessments, including VS and weight.
  • Develops and implements patient care plans, consults, or review of medical clearance in coordination with surgeons, anesthesia, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure the safety of the patient through the perioperative experience.
  • Educates patients and their families on the procedure prep, NPO status prior to surgery, medications to take/hold prior to surgery, arrival times, postop support needs, etc. Provide information related to emotional support and counseling to patients and their families as indicated.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals involved in the patient's care, including cardiologist, pulmonologist, and primary care physicians. Advocate for and educate patients on preventative care measures, such as regular screenings, balanced nutrition, and exercise.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records of patients' medical histories, medications, treatments, and progress through the preoperative process. Ensure that all patient records are kept confidential and are up to date.
  • Adheres to all hospital and departmental safety policies and protocols and ensure compliance with healthcare laws and regulations. Stay updated on the latest advancements in nursing care through continuous learning and professional development. Attend seminars, workshops, and other training sessions as required.
  • Advocates for patients' rights and needs, ensuring they receive the best possible care. Address any patient complaints or concerns, escalating them to management when necessary.

Other information:

  • Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina or one of the compact states by the first day of clinical care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must be graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina or one of compact states.
  • Current BLS certification required for all roles.
  • Hired candidates are required to hold relevant certifications as per clinical area.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience preferred.
