Job Description

Summary of Position 

The Website Content Specialist supports the planning, creation, publishing, maintenance, and continuous improvement of content across Augsburg University and Luther Seminary web properties. This shared-services position maintains accurate, engaging, accessible, and user-centered web content by completing routine updates, monitoring website performance, applying basic search optimization practices, and supporting digital accessibility standards. Working collaboratively with campus partners, the Website Content Specialist gathers and translates department and program information into clear, consistent web content that supports institutional goals, brand standards, and an inclusive digital experience. 

Primary Responsibilities

Web Content Management & Optimization: 

  • Update, revise, format, and publish web content, including landing pages, program pages, and blog posts, within the Content Management System (CMS).
  • Apply basic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) practices, including updating headings, meta descriptions, keywords, and links.
  • Review and optimize existing content based on performance data, user needs, and requests from campus partners.
  • Maintain consistent formatting, messaging, and visual presentation in alignment with institutional brand standards.

Web Analytics & Performance

  • Monitor website traffic, user behavior, search performance, and engagement using Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Search Console, and other available tools.
  • Identify user trends, content performance opportunities, and potential drop-off points to inform website improvements.
  • Use analytics and performance data to recommend and implement content updates that improve the user experience and support institutional goals.

Digital Accessibility & Compliance 

  • Conduct routine accessibility reviews and scans to identify issues such as missing alternative text, broken links, color contrast concerns, and content structure issues.
  • Complete basic web content and accessibility updates in alignment with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and institutional standards.
  • Ensure web content and multimedia include appropriate accessibility elements, including alternative text, closed captioning, transcripts, and descriptive content.
  • Participate in the Digital Accessibility Committee and support ongoing institutional accessibility initiatives.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration & Governance

  • Collaborate with campus partners to gather, review, organize, and maintain department- and program-specific web content.
  • Translate departmental requests into clear, user-friendly, accessible, and appropriately structured web content.
  • Assist campus partners with CMS processes, web content standards, and accessibility expectations.
  • Develop and maintain CMS documentation, how-to guides, and training resources for internal content contributors.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with external vendors providing website hosting, accessibility, and related web services to address website issues.
  • Monitor institutional web properties to support consistent branding, messaging, functionality, and content quality.
  • Maintain website-related registrations, subscriptions, and institutional listings, including Google Business Profile and Bing Places.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Hybrid: This position offers the flexibility of working from home for day-to-day operations. However, the candidate must live within a commutable distance, as they are required to attend in-person meetings and on-site organizational events as needed. This is subject to change and can be up to 2-3 days a week in the office. 
  • Sedentary work for long periods of time.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution in Web Development, Computer Science, Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in website content management, digital communications, web development, marketing, or a related area.
  • Experience working with website Content Management Systems (CMS) and editing or publishing web content.
  • Experience using Google Analytics or other web analytics platforms to monitor website performance.
  • Working knowledge of web accessibility standards and digital accessibility principles.
  • Basic working knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Search Console, SEO/AEO practices, and web accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Experience using project management tools to coordinate and track web content requests.
  • Experience developing CMS documentation, training materials, or user guides for non-technical users.
  • Experience supporting web content in higher education, nonprofit, or other mission-driven organizations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong written communication, editing, proofreading, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical campus partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work well under deadlines; 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; 
  • Regular computer and phone use.

Compensation & Benefits at Augsburg

  • The compensation range is $48,000 - $55,000 annually, DOQ.
