Webrtc Remote information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a WebRTC remote engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a WebRTC Remote Engineer, you need strong proficiency in real-time communication protocols, JavaScript, and experience with WebRTC APIs, typically backed by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with signaling servers, STUN/TURN servers, and related tools like Janus, Kurento, or mediasoup is highly valued. Excellent problem-solving abilities, collaboration, and clear communication skills are essential for working within distributed teams and troubleshooting complex issues. These competencies ensure reliable, scalable, and high-quality real-time applications that meet user and business needs.

What are some common challenges faced by WebRTC remote engineers when collaborating with distributed teams?

WebRTC Remote engineers often work closely with distributed teams, which can introduce challenges such as coordinating across different time zones, ensuring consistent code integration, and maintaining effective real-time communication. Additionally, troubleshooting WebRTC applications remotely can be complex due to variations in end-user network environments and device configurations. To address these issues, teams typically rely on robust communication tools, thorough documentation, and regular virtual meetings to stay aligned and resolve issues efficiently.

Job description

Job Summary:
Avride is a fast-moving team of engineers building systems for teleoperation and fleet management for autonomous cars and delivery robots. The Senior Frontend Engineer will be responsible for developing the operator-facing frontend of the Remote Control stack, focusing on real-time web interfaces that enhance the efficiency and reliability of autonomous operations.
Responsibilities:
• Build and maintain low-latency, real-time interfaces for controlling autonomous cars and robots
• Architect robust React applications that integrate live video feeds, real-time maps, and interactive controls for navigation and remote assistance
• Optimize for operator efficiency: keyboard workflows, high-res layouts, fast feedback loops
• Collaborate with backend, robotics, and UX teams to shape APIs and flows for reliability under edge conditions
• Ship fast, iterate often, and deliver responsive, intuitive tools that support autonomous vehicle operations
Qualifications:
Required:
• Strong React and TypeScript skills — proven track record building fast, maintainable apps
• Real-time mindset — experience working with websockets, live data, or streaming video is a plus
• UI intuition — you care about interface design and performance, and you know how to debug slow or janky UIs
• System thinking — you know how frontend fits into the bigger picture, and you write code that holds up under load
• Candidates are required to be authorized to work in the U.S. The employer is not offering relocation sponsorship, and remote work options are not available.
Preferred:
• Experience with WebRTC, low-latency video, or socket-based architectures
• Familiarity with telemetry, maps, or robotics/vehicle systems
• Basic Python or Go skills for debugging backend issues
Company:
Avride is a developer and operator of autonomous vehicles and delivery robots. Founded in 2017, the company is headquartered in Austin, USA, with a team of 201-500 employees. The company is currently Growth Stage.
