What Does a Web Search Evaluator Do?

As a web search evaluator, your job is to evaluate online search results and determine if the content is relevant to a searcher. Some employers refer to this position as a search engine evaluator or, for Google, ads quality evaluator. The goal of this job is improving user experience on the internet and supporting the entire search engine process. Many employers make this a part-time position, and it is easy to perform anywhere that allows you to use the internet without interruption for several hours. A significant amount of this job involves writing reports and feedback for customers.

What are Web Search Evaluators?

Web Search Evaluators are professionals who assess and improve the quality of search engine results by reviewing and rating the relevance and usefulness of search queries and the content that appears in the results. They help search engines deliver more accurate and valuable information to users by following specific guidelines and providing feedback on the results. This role typically involves working remotely, using a computer or mobile device, and understanding various languages or cultures to ensure search results are contextually appropriate. The feedback provided by Web Search Evaluators helps improve algorithms and user experience on popular search engines.

What are some typical challenges faced by Web Search Evaluators and how can they be managed?

Web Search Evaluators often encounter challenges such as adapting to frequently changing guidelines, maintaining objectivity while assessing search results, and managing repetitive tasks over extended periods. Staying updated with the latest evaluation criteria and participating in regular training can help address guideline changes. Setting a structured work schedule and taking regular breaks can also help maintain focus and reduce fatigue. Maintaining clear communication with project managers is key to resolving uncertainties about tasks.
