Title: Press Operator II/Web Pressman IIJob Classification: Hourly, Non-exemptDepartment: Offset PrintingReports To: Pressroom Manager1st Shift: 6 am -2:30 pm Monday - Friday2nd shift: 4pm - 4am Monday - Wednesday General purpose of Job: The Web Pressman II operates and supports web printing presses with limited supervision. This role is responsible for performing press setups, makeready, and production runs while maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency standards. The Level II Pressman demonstrates solid technical knowledge of press operations and actively supports training and mentoring of Level I employees.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Operate assigned sections of web presses during production runsPerform press setup, makeready, and changeovers according to job specificationsLoad and thread paper webs, adjust tension, registration, and ink flowMonitor press performance and make routine adjustments to maintain print qualityTroubleshoot common press issues and escalate complex problems as neededEnsure printed product meets customer and internal quality standardsMonitor color, registration, density, and overall print appearancePull, inspect, and approve press samples at required intervalsMake corrective adjustments to minimize waste and downtimeAccurately document quality checks and production dataFollow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and PPE requirementsPerform routine press cleaning and basic preventive maintenanceIdentify and report mechanical or safety concerns promptlyMaintain a clean, organized, and safe pressroom environmentSupport and guide Web Pressman Level 1 employees during shiftsAssist with on‑the‑job training and skill developmentCommunicate production status, issues, and handoff information clearlyWork collaboratively with maintenance, quality, and finishing departmentsMeet production schedules and efficiency targetsAssist in reducing waste, downtime, and reworkFollow standard operating procedures and contribute improvement ideasSupport lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiativesAny other duties assigned by supervisor Performance Measurement: Performance feedback will take place both verbally and written on a day-to-day as needed basis, recognition in monthly employee recognition meetings, formal training on changes in SOP as needed with a formal review by the supervisor at least annuallyEducation and/or Experience:High school diploma or GED. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills. Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and overtime. Experience with color control systems and registration tools. Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices. Experience training or mentoring less‑experienced operatorsLanguage and Math Skills:Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on -one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.Physical Demands:Often standing or walking, may climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
