What Does a Web Designer Developer Do?

A web designer developer combines the responsibilities of a website designer and a website programmer into an all-inclusive position. In this role, your duties are to design a website by planning its overall concept, from its color scheme to its layout, and then develop the site by writing the code that makes your design come to fruition online. To become a web designer developer, you need expert knowledge of website coding languages like HTML, CSS, and PHP as well as design and graphics-making skills using programs like Adobe Photoshop. Web designer developers may work part-time or full-time for organizations to create and maintain their websites, or they can work on a freelance basis designing and coding websites for clients.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Web Designer Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Designer Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and design principles, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio of work. Familiarity with tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and content management systems (such as WordPress), as well as knowledge of responsive frameworks, is commonly expected. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help differentiate top professionals in this role. These skills and qualities ensure the creation of visually appealing, user-friendly, and technically sound websites that meet client and user needs.

How do Web Designer Developers typically collaborate with other team members during a project?

Web Designer Developers often work closely with project managers, UX/UI designers, and back-end developers to ensure that websites are visually appealing, user-friendly, and function seamlessly. Collaboration usually involves regular meetings to discuss project goals, design mockups, and technical requirements. Effective communication and the ability to interpret feedback from non-technical stakeholders are key, as Web Designer Developers bridge the gap between design and functionality. Using collaborative tools like Figma, Slack, and version control systems helps streamline the workflow and maintain project alignment.

What are Web Designer Developers?

Web Designer Developers are professionals who combine the skills of web design and web development to create visually appealing, user-friendly, and functional websites. They are responsible for both the aesthetics (layout, color schemes, typography) and the technical aspects (coding, functionality, performance) of websites. This hybrid role involves using design tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite, and programming languages, like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Web Designer Developers often work closely with clients to understand their needs and deliver a cohesive online experience that meets both design and technical requirements.

Job description

Web & Application Developer (Full‑Time, Permanent – Hybrid)

No visa sponsorship available now or in the future

We are seeking multiple Full Stack Web & Application Developers to join a collaborative, fast‑moving technology team. This is a full‑time, permanent role with a hybrid work schedule. The environment is highly technical, team‑oriented, and ideal for developers who enjoy working across the full stack, learning new skills, and wearing many hats.

We are hiring for both mid‑level and senior‑level positions.

About the Role

As a Web & Application Developer, you will design, build, enhance, and support customer‑facing web applications. This role requires strong hands‑on development skills across both the front‑end and back‑end, along with the ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including offshore partners. You will work on new development as well as enhancements to existing systems.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is personable, adaptable, and excited to work in a dynamic environment where continuous learning is encouraged.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain web applications across the full stack

  • Build responsive, user‑friendly front‑end interfaces and robust back‑end services

  • Work with clients and internal teams to understand requirements and design solutions

  • Create and consume REST APIs, SDKs, and web services (SOAP/REST/JSON)

  • Test, troubleshoot, and optimize applications for performance, usability, and reliability

  • Review and improve existing codebases; contribute to architectural discussions

  • Document code and technical processes for team knowledge sharing

  • Collaborate with offshore development teams

  • Support production applications and resolve issues as needed

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Web Development, Computer Science, or related field — or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of SDLC experience including analysis, design, development, integration, deployment, and testing

  • Strong hands‑on experience with:

    • .NET 8+ / .NET Core

    • C#

    • ASP.NET Core / Web API

    • SQL Server 2019+ (ability to write queries, joins, aggregations, and understand query plans)

    • Blazor (or Angular/React experience)

  • Experience with modern JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and responsive/mobile‑first design

  • Experience with version control and CI/CD tools (preferably Azure DevOps)

  • Ability to work across both front‑end and back‑end systems

  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in health insurance, TPA, or claims processing

  • Familiarity with EDI standards (e.g., 835)

  • Experience with job scheduling tools (e.g., ActiveBatch)

  • Experience using Postman, Jenkins, or similar tools

What We’re Looking For
  • A well‑rounded full stack developer — not someone siloed in only front‑end or back‑end

  • Someone who can speak clearly and confidently about their experience

  • A personable, collaborative team member who fits well in a strong culture
