What are the job duties of an email designer?

As an email designer, you design, organize, and coordinate digital assets for an email campaign or digital marketing advertisement. You may use existing HTML email layouts or build HTML emails that are creative and eye-catching. You may also use cascading style sheets (CSS) to format the email’s content. Your responsibilities include finding appropriate images for email campaigns and color correcting pictures for digital use. Other duties include analyzing the click rate for each email campaign and determining the percentage of recipients who chose to open the email. You may also design digital marketing ads and create dynamic emails.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an email designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Email Designer, you need expertise in graphic design, HTML/CSS coding for emails, and a strong understanding of email marketing principles, often supported by a portfolio or relevant certification. Familiarity with email service providers (ESPs) like Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor, as well as tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, is typically required. Attention to detail, creativity, and strong communication skills help you produce compelling, brand-aligned content and collaborate effectively with marketing teams. These skills ensure that emails are visually engaging, technically sound, and optimized for both user experience and campaign effectiveness.

What is the difference between Email Designer vs Email Developer?

While both roles contribute to email marketing, Email Designers focus on creating visually appealing layouts and user experiences, whereas Email Developers handle the technical coding and implementation of those designs into functional emails. Understanding these differences helps employers and professionals identify the right skills needed for each role.

What are some common challenges faced by email designers when creating campaigns for multiple devices and email clients?

Email Designers often encounter challenges ensuring that their designs render consistently across a wide range of devices and email clients. Differences in how email clients interpret HTML and CSS can lead to formatting issues or broken layouts. To address this, designers must use responsive design techniques, test emails across platforms, and be familiar with fallback options for unsupported features. Collaboration with developers, marketers, and QA teams is also essential to streamline revisions and maintain brand consistency.

Job Summary

PatientPoint is looking for a full-time Marketing Designer to join the Marketing team, reporting to the Lead Art Director. This person will own design execution across print, digital and presentation deliverables that support our brand, sales and demand-gen efforts.

You have a proven ability to conceptualize and design high-end, highly creative, professional graphics, and you're comfortable working as part of a collaborative, dynamic, forward-thinking and dedicated Marketing team.

What You'll Do
  • Design a variety of marketing materials including sales sheets, case studies, whitepapers and web content.
  • Concept and design digital advertisements, including mobile ads and landing pages.
  • Design and edit PowerPoint presentations for sales and executive audiences.
  • Design email campaigns and website assets in partnership with marketing and web teams.
  • Design conference and tradeshow assets, from booth graphics to leave-behinds.
  • Partner with brand, product marketing and content teams to bring campaigns to life across formats.
  • Maintain brand consistency and elevate visual quality across all deliverables.
What We Need
  • 5+ years of in-house or agency marketing/graphic design experience
  • Strong layout skills for both print and digital.
  • Experience designing email marketing campaigns and website assets.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Hands-on experience with Figma.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience designing digital advertising assets, including mobile ads and landing pages.
  • Conference/tradeshow asset design experience.
  • Video compositing experience (After Effects or Premiere)
  • Canva experience is a plus.
  • Advanced PowerPoint design and editing capabilities.
  • Adept at using generative AI design tools (e.g., Adobe Firefly, Flora).
  • Excellent command of typography, color theory and web optimization.
What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Attention to detail throughout the concepting, design and production process.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and still meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated, independent worker capable of executing projects without continual supervision.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, time/project management and organizational ability.
  • Strong communication, collaboration and presentation skills.
Portfolio Expectations

Please share an online portfolio or reel that shows range and craft across the formats above-print collateral, digital ads, presentations, email/web and event/tradeshow materials. We want to see how you approach a brief: the concept, the layout decisions and how a piece evolved from first draft to final. We're most interested in your hands-on design work and your versatility across mediums, not just a single polished case study.
