Job description

Systems Engineer (Weapons)

Murfreesboro, Tennessee

Description

Design the next generation of weapon systems from concept to reality. As a Systems Engineer (Weapons), you?ll lead the design, modeling, and testing of integrated firearms, ammunition, fire control systems, and enabling technologies. You?ll own system requirements from definition through flowdown, build system models in CAD, and translate complex ideas into clear interfaces. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you?ll drive collaboration, innovation, and performance at every stage of development.

About the Role

  • Lead the design, prototyping, production, and delivery of new weapon systems, guiding programs from concept through field-ready solutions.
  • Develop and manage system requirements using tools such as DOORS, performing requirements flowdown and creating product specifications, requirements documents, and interface control documents.
  • Conceptualize weapon system architectures and subcomponents aligned to specific mission profiles, performing trade studies and down-select decisions to define final configurations.
  • Create CAD models and drawings in SolidWorks in accordance with Barrett drawing standards, while overseeing integration of electronic components across systems and subcomponents.
  • Plan and support validation and verification testing, collaborating with Test Engineering to develop test plans using military and industry-standard specifications.
  • Partner with internal teams, external customers, and strategic suppliers to support subsystem development, present technical solutions, build capital equipment business cases, and drive continuous improvement using Microsoft collaboration tools.

About You

You?re a systems-minded engineer who thrives at the intersection of design, performance, and mission impact. You?re comfortable owning complex weapon system architectures from early concept through validation, and you enjoy translating requirements into practical, buildable solutions. You collaborate easily with engineers, partners, and customers, communicate technical ideas with confidence, and take pride in building disciplined documentation and models that drive results. You?re naturally curious, detail-oriented, and always looking for smarter, more efficient ways to improve how systems are designed, tested, and delivered.

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field required, Master of Science preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the firearms or defense industry, 10+ years preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with firearms and safe firearm handling.
  • Experience with military requirements management, military hardware procurement, and the ability to follow and apply military specifications and industry-standard design and testing specifications.
  • Proficiency creating models and drawings using CAD software, with SolidWorks experience preferred, and a strong engineering discipline grounded in modern design, simulation, analysis, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Technical understanding of ammunition manufacturing techniques and performance specifications, as well as electronics, optics, and electro-optic systems; experience as a responsible person on a Federal Explosive License desired.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance if required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to support job functions.
