Job description

The Waste Control Helper supports waste collection and disposal operations by assisting drivers and team members with the safe and efficient pickup, transport, and disposal of waste materials. This role is physically demanding and requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and environmental responsibility.

Requirements

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Assist in maintaining a safe work environment at all times
  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents immediately
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal waste handling regulations

Operational Duties

  • Assist drivers with collecting residential, commercial, or industrial waste
  • Load and unload waste containers, bags, and materials onto trucks
  • Operate packing mechanisms and ensure proper waste compaction
  • Guide drivers during backing and maneuvering when needed
  • Ensure waste is collected efficiently along assigned routes

Customer Service

  • Interact professionally with customers when servicing locations
  • Address basic questions or direct concerns to appropriate personnel

Equipment & Maintenance

  • Assist in routine cleaning and basic maintenance of trucks and equipment
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly stored and secured
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous labor, construction, or sanitation experience a plus

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work (lifting 50+ lbs, frequent bending, walking, and standing)
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Dependable with strong attendance
