Job description

About the Role:

The Produce Trainee role is designed to provide comprehensive training and hands-on experience in managing the produce section within a retail environment. The primary goal is to ensure the highest quality and freshness of fruits and vegetables offered to customers, contributing to overall customer satisfaction and store success. This position involves learning inventory management, product handling, and display techniques to maximize product appeal and minimize waste. The trainee will work closely with experienced team members to understand supplier relationships, seasonal product variations, and safety standards. Ultimately, the role prepares the individual for a full Produce Associate position by developing strong operational knowledge and customer service skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of produce types and handling is preferred but not required.
  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in retail or grocery store environments.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and produce quality control.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in receiving, inspecting, and stocking fresh produce deliveries to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Learn and apply proper storage and handling procedures to maintain product freshness and safety.
  • Support the setup and maintenance of attractive produce displays that encourage customer purchases.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist in rotating stock to minimize spoilage and waste.
  • Engage with customers to provide product information and answer questions, enhancing their shopping experience.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations related to produce handling and store operations.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain cleanliness and organization of the produce department.
