Description of Job
Join our Distribution Services team and play a critical role in keeping campus operations running smoothly. As a Materials Handler II, you will serve as a lead team member responsible for receiving, tracking, sorting, and delivering packages, freight, and mail across campus. This position combines hands-on warehouse and delivery work with leadership responsibilities, customer service, and operational coordination.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a physically active environment while helping guide daily team operations.
What You'll Do
Receiving & Distribution Operations
  • Receive, unload, inspect, and organize incoming freight and shipments.
  • Operate a forklift and other equipment to safely move materials.
  • Verify shipments, identify damaged freight, and coordinate issue resolution with vendors and carriers.
  • Utilize package tracking systems, including QTrak, to ensure accurate receiving and delivery records.
  • Route and deliver packages, freight, and time-sensitive materials throughout campus.
  • Maintain organized staging and delivery processes to maximize efficiency and service levels.
Team Leadership & Daily Operations
  • Serve as a lead team member within Distribution Services.
  • Assist with coordinating daily assignments and ensuring work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Provide coverage for the supervisor when needed.
  • Help manage package-tracking workflows and customer inquiries.
  • Support staffing adjustments during absences or high-volume periods.
  • Report operational concerns and assist in maintaining workflow continuity.
Mail Services
  • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming USPS and interdepartmental mail.
  • Assist with outgoing mail processing, including special services such as certified, insured, and registered mail.
  • Stay informed of USPS regulations and mailing requirements.
  • Transport mail between campus and local postal facilities as needed.
Training & Customer Support
  • Train and mentor new employees and student workers.
  • Provide guidance on delivery routes, receiving procedures, and package tracking systems.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to campus departments and stakeholders.
  • Research and resolve delivery issues involving incomplete addresses, missing information, or special handling requirements.
Facility & Equipment Management
  • Prepare delivery vehicles and equipment for daily operations.
  • Monitor vehicle conditions and coordinate maintenance requests when necessary.
  • Maintain warehouse security and cleanliness standards.
  • Assist with seasonal and weather-related operational needs, including clearing loading areas when required.
