Automation Manager – Distribution Center Operations

Position Summary

The Automation Manager is responsible for overseeing all automated systems within the distribution center, ensuring optimal performance, uptime, safety, and efficiency across material handling equipment and warehouse automation systems.

This role leads preventative maintenance strategy, troubleshooting, vendor coordination, system optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives to support high-volume fulfillment operations for a fast-paced retail client.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in warehouse automation, controls systems, maintenance leadership, and operational excellence within large-scale distribution or fulfillment environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Automation & Equipment Management
  • Oversee daily operations of automated material handling systems including:
  • Conveyors
  • Sortation systems
  • ASRS (Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems)
  • Robotics
  • Scanners
  • PLC-controlled equipment
  • Packaging automation
  • Print/apply systems
  • Labeling and fulfillment systems
  • Ensure maximum uptime and minimal disruption to fulfillment operations
  • Lead root cause analysis for system failures and recurring downtime
  • Manage preventative and predictive maintenance programs
  • Coordinate emergency repairs and vendor service calls
  • Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead automation technicians, maintenance teams, and third-party vendors
  • Develop schedules, priorities, and escalation protocols
