Library Director Moultrie-Colquitt County Public Library System

The Moultrie-Colquitt County Public Library System is seeking a visionary and experienced leader to serve as its next Library Director. Located in the heart of southwest Georgia, Colquitt County is a vibrant community of approximately 47,000 residents. As the most diverse agricultural county east of the Mississippi River, Moultrie serves as a cultural and economic hub, home to the world-renowned Sunbelt Ag Expo.

The Library System

The System comprises the main library and the Ellen Payne Odom Genealogical Library in Moultrie, a branch library in Doerun, and a bookmobile service. With an annual budget of approximately $800,000, the library is a single-county system supported by local, state, and federal funding. Notably, the Odom Genealogical Library holds a separate $1.3 million endowment and is recognized as one of the premier genealogy collections in the state of Georgia.

Core Responsibilities

Under the leadership of a nine-member Board of Trustees, the Director is responsible for the following:

  • Ensures all operations of the System align with the policies established by the Board of Trustees.
  • Provides technical expertise and serves as the primary staff liaison to the Board, offering recommendations for strategic policies, programming, and service enhancements.
  • Maintains an in-depth understanding of the library market to assess and benchmark services, developing both short-term and long-term strategies to boost productivity, improve service delivery, and optimize costs.
  • Manages financial oversight by preparing annual budget proposals for Board review and agency submission, monitoring cash flow, and authorizing expenditures in accordance with the approved fiscal plan.
  • Directs personnel management, including the recruitment, training, evaluation, and discipline of staff per the Personnel Manual, while also drafting job descriptions and salary structures for Board approval.
  • Oversees the strategic acquisition, curation, and preservation of a high-quality collection of library materials.
  • Coordinates and evaluates all organizational workflows to ensure the most economical and efficient use of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel.
  • Delivers regular updates to the Board regarding system operations, personnel, and programs, while maintaining transparent communication with staff regarding future plans and ongoing activities.
  • Collaborates with media outlets to cultivate community goodwill and promote the library’s diverse programs and specialized services.
  • Identifies and pursues grant opportunities to secure additional funding for the advancement of the library system.
Position Details

Salary: Minimum $82,941; supplement available based on experience
Benefits: Georgia Teacher Retirement System & State Health Insurance
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week (Salaried)
Location: 204 5th St. SE, Moultrie, Georgia

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Certification: Must possess or be eligible for a Professional Librarian’s Certificate from the State of Georgia.
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of administrative experience is preferred, with a strong understanding of legal structures, library finance, and personnel management.
  • Skills: Proficiency in accounting, data processing, and statistics; ability to maintain effective working relationships with the Board, staff, and the public.
