Position Summary:

The VP of Technology leads GBFB's core technology operations and the modernization of its business systems. The role owns the reliability, security, and evolution of the platforms that enable GBFB to move more than 100 million pounds of food annually — infrastructure, network, end-user services, cybersecurity, and the organization's systems of record — across the Yawkey Distribution Center and nine regional sites.

This is a build-and-run role. The VP is accountable for keeping a 24/7 distribution environment stable and secure day to day, and simultaneously for retiring the manual bridges between systems that currently constrain how GBFB operates. Where the technology environment is fragmented, the VP is responsible for making it coherent.

This role owns technology operations, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, vendor and managed service partner delivery, and the technology project portfolio. The VP works in close partnership with GBFB's Strategy & Intelligence function on data, analytics, and artificial intelligence. The VP is expected to operate as a peer and partner to that function and to maintain a single, coherent technology agenda across both.

Role & Responsibilities:

Technology Operations & Service Delivery

  • Own day-to-day technology operations across infrastructure, network, endpoints, telephony, and end-user support at all GBFB sites, and define, publish, and report against service levels appropriate to a distribution operation where downtime directly interrupts food moving to neighbors.

Security & Resilience

  • Own cybersecurity end-to-end — identity and access management, endpoint protection, email security, vulnerability management, incident response, and organization-wide awareness training — maintaining alignment to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and CIS Controls v8, including the policy set and evidence required for audit, cyber insurance underwriting, and Board reporting.
  • Maintain and regularly test business continuity and disaster recovery plans covering the distribution center, regional sites, and cloud-hosted systems.

Enterprise Systems & Transformation

  • Own the enterprise application portfolio and GBFB's systems of record, and set enterprise architecture direction: integration patterns, master data ownership, environment and release management, and technical debt reduction.
  • Lead the sequenced replacement of manual bridges between systems with supported, monitored, documented integrations.
  • Partner with Strategy & Intelligence to define source system requirements so data flows to the analytics platform reliably and without rework, and to maintain alignment across GBFB's full technology, data, and AI agenda.

Vendor, Budget & Portfolio Management

  • Manage PMO team in evaluation, selection, and contract negotiation for technology products and services, and manage managed service partners as an integrated delivery model — setting scope, service levels, and escalation paths, and holding all partners accountable to measurable performance.
  • Own technology CAPEX and OPEX budgets and the technology project portfolio: forecasting, total cost of ownership discipline, intake, prioritization, resourcing, and delivery against committed dates.

Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and grow a technology team spanning infrastructure, security, applications administration, vendor management, and project delivery.
  • Serve as the primary technology voice to business leaders and the executive team, working directly with all business units to translate operational need into system change and technical constraint into plain language.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Ten or more years of professional technology experience, including at least five years leading teams and owning a full IT operating environment.
  • Demonstrated accountability for a cybersecurity program in an organization without a large dedicated security staff.
  • Track record managing managed service providers or other outsourced delivery models.
  • Experience owning ERP and/or warehouse management systems in a distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or supply chain environment.
  • Experience leading system integration or modernization work from definition through delivery.
  • Ownership of CAPEX and OPEX budgets.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders, including executives and Board members.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Direct experience with NetSuite and Salesforce
  • Experience operating in a structure where data and analytics sit in a partner function rather than reporting to technology.
  • Relevant certifications such as PMP or ITIL
  • Nonprofit, food banking, or mission-driven organizational experience preferred
  • Demonstrates the required digital competencies that result in the effective usage of the full range of digital technologies at GBFB.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Option 1 – Office:

  • Ability to work in an office environment.
  • Ability to sit for up to 3 hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to use hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Ability to travel based on business needs.

Work Location

  • Hybrid: This role follows a hybrid schedule working in accordance with GBFB’s hybrid work policy on the team’s designated days. This schedule is subject to change based on the organization’s mission to end hunger.
