Job description

Overview

Reporting to the system CIO, this position is a senior leader responsible for the strategic direction, operational excellence, and advancement of technology infrastructure across the health system. Serving on the IT Executive Leadership Team, this leader oversees the several areas across the Information Technology organization such as network, security, storage, servers, telephony, Active Directory, email, desktop, mobile devices, the data warehouse, data centers, and cloud strategy. This role serves as a critical partner in executing Piedmont Healthcare's enterprise technology vision and ensuring systems are reliable, scalable, secure, and aligned with the organization's mission to deliver exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities

Technology & Infrastructure Strategy

  • Define and drive a multi-year enterprise technology and infrastructure roadmap aligned with health system strategic goals
  • Lead evaluation, selection, and governance of technology platforms including cloud, on-premise, and hybrid architectures
  • Champion innovation in areas including AI/ML infrastructure, interoperability, and next-generation clinical technology platforms
  • Collaborate with the CIO to translate business and clinical needs into actionable technology investments
  • Develop and maintain a technology standards framework ensuring consistency, scalability, and vendor alignment across the enterprise

Infrastructure & Operations

  • Oversee the design, deployment, and operations of all enterprise infrastructure - including data centers, networks, cloud environments, and end-user computing
  • Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity for all critical clinical and administrative systems
  • Establish and enforce SLAs, KPIs, and performance metrics across technology operations; drive continuous improvement in reliability and responsiveness
  • Direct IT service management (ITSM) practices including incident, problem, change, and capacity management
  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and performance for key infrastructure and managed service providers

Cybersecurity & Risk Management

  • Partner with the VP Information Security to embed security-by-design principles across all infrastructure and operations
  • Ensure technology operations meet HIPAA, HITECH, Joint Commission, and other applicable regulatory and compliance frameworks
  • Lead risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies across the technology portfolio

Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of technology leaders, engineers, and operations professionals
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous learning, and service excellence
  • Develop talent pipelines and succession plans for critical technology roles across the organization
  • Serve as a visible technology leader across the health system, building trust with clinical, operational, and administrative stakeholders

Financial Stewardship

  • Develop and manage an operating and capital budget for technology infrastructure and operations - typically in the range of $150M-$300M+
  • Drive cost optimization through strategic sourcing, vendor consolidation, automation, and cloud rationalization initiatives
  • Provide transparent financial reporting and ROI analysis for technology investments to the CIO and executive leadership

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field required

Work Experience

  • Ten (10) years of progressive technology leadership experience, to include at least seven (7) years in a senior role required
  • Proven track record managing enterprise-scale infrastructure transformations including cloud migrations, data center consolidations, and network modernization required
  • Prior experience in or strong familiarity with integrated health systems, academic medical centers, or multi-site healthcare delivery organizations required
  • Demonstrated experience leading technology infrastructure and operations within a large, complex organization - healthcare experience preferred
