What are Vp Tech?

A VP Tech, or Vice President of Technology, is a senior executive responsible for overseeing a company's technology strategy, development, and implementation. We hire and advance based on merit and actively engage talent with diverse backgrounds and perspectives, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation throughout our company.
The Vice President, Technology Operations serves as the operating executive to the CTO, responsible for managing the Technology Operating System across Infrastructure, Applications, Product, Security, Data, and PMO.
This role exists to remove the CTO as the day-to-day integrator and escalation backstop, ensuring renewals, budgeting, governance, resilience, and cross-functional execution operate through durable control systems rather than executive intervention.
The outcome is predictable execution, disciplined decision-making, and measurable reduction in matters requiring direct CTO involvement.
Reporting & Authority Model
  • Reports to Chief Technology Officer.
  • Serves as delegated operating authority across the Technology Leadership Team.
  • Operates as a peer-level integrator with authority delegated by the CTO; functional leaders retain domain accountability.
  • Can enforce operating discipline and standards across senior technology leaders.
  • Coordinates commercial posture and renewal preparation but does not hold final commercial authority.
  • Escalates decisions requiring executive judgment-not operational clean-up.

Primary Mandate: Technology Control Systems
Vendor Renewal Operating System
  • Maintain forward-looking renewal calendar with vendor tiering.
  • Standardize executive-ready renewal packets and approval routing.
  • Coordinate Security, Risk, Finance, Legal, and functional inputs.
  • Enforce timeline discipline to eliminate last-minute escalations.
  • Surface commercial tradeoffs clearly for executive decision.

Escalation & Operational Stability
  • Serve as first-line executive triage for cross-functional escalations.
  • Establish owner and stabilization cadence within 24-48 hours.
  • Prevent unnecessary CTO involvement.
  • Drive root cause and prevention tracking to closure.
  • Ensure runbooks and documentation are updated post-incident.

Budget & Portfolio Discipline
  • Own the technology budgeting runbook and forecasting cadence.
  • Standardize inputs and executive narrative preparation.
  • Run portfolio steering with milestone, risk, and decision tracking.
  • Ensure tradeoffs are surfaced early and clearly.

Governance & Decision Hygiene
  • Establish durable operating forums with clear charters.
  • Maintain decision logs and action registers.
  • Enforce escalation pathways and accountability.
  • Reduce noise while increasing clarity and ownership.

BCP/DR & Resilience Discipline
  • Co-own cadence with Security and Risk.
  • Ensure recovery inventories and ownership remain current.
  • Run exercises and track remediation to closure.
  • Maintain audit and due diligence evidence readiness.

Secondary Mandate: Execution Acceleration
Automation as an Operating Discipline
  • Ensure automation initiatives are prioritized against measurable operational friction.
  • Require repeatable, supportable patterns with documentation and ownership clarity.
  • Ensure monitoring, logging, and auditability are embedded.
  • Does not design automation workflows directly; ensures durability and alignment.

AI Enablement Support
  • Partner with the CTO to operationalize AI initiatives through structured intake and prioritization.
  • Support enablement cadence and governance alignment.
  • Translate pilots into production-ready, supportable workflows.
  • CTO retains ownership of AI strategy and direction.

Education and Qualifications
  • 12-20 years in enterprise technology environments with ownership of operating cadence and governance.

Experience, Skills and Competencies Required
  • Experience at the VP / SVP / Head of Technology Operations level in multi-disciplinary technology organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in reducing executive operational load through durable control systems.
  • Experience in regulated or risk-sensitive environments (financial services or similar).
  • High-accountability operator who drives closure without relying on formal reporting authority.
  • Comfortable enforcing standards across senior technical leaders.
  • Commercially aware; calm under escalation.
  • Focused on measurable outcomes and repeatable mechanisms over heroics.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise infrastructure, SaaS, security posture, and resilience practices.
  • Experience overseeing automation initiatives as an operating discipline.
  • Familiarity with enterprise AI enablement in governed environments.

Deep coding experience, enterprise architecture ownership, AI research or model development, or infrastructure subject matter specialization is not required for this role.
Measures of Success
  • โ‰ฅ60% reduction in renewals requiring direct CTO involvement.
  • โ‰ฅ50% reduction in operational escalations reaching the CTO.
  • Predictable budget cycle with minimal executive rework.
  • Governance forums produce documented decisions and clean logs.
  • BCP/DR cycles occur on schedule with remediation tracked to closure.
  • Automation initiatives measurably reduce recurring operational toil.
  • CTO time shifts meaningfully toward enterprise value work.
