Position Details

  • The Director of Finance serves as a finance leader for one of Novanta's medical segment business units and a trusted business partner to the Business leadership team. Based in Portland, OR, this role leads financial strategy, planning, performance management, and decision support to drive profitable growth aligned with Novanta's enterprise goals.
  • The Director of Finance combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution and plays a key role in investment decisions, operational performance, and long-term value creation.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Finance & Business Partnership

  • Serve as a senior finance leader within the business unit (BU), partnering closely with the VP of Finance and business unit leadership.
  • Translate BU strategy into robust financial plans, investment cases, and performance targets.
  • Support the VP of Finance in driving financial alignment between BU priorities and enterprise objectives.
  • Provide financial leadership on growth initiatives, capital investments, and strategic trade-offs.

Financial Planning, Analysis & Business Performance Management

  • Lead BU financial planning activities in coordination with the VP of Finance, including: Annual operating plan, Long-range strategic plan, Quarterly forecasts.
  • Drive disciplined execution against revenue, margin, and cost commitments.
  • Develop actionable insights for the VP of Finance and BU leaders, highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Governance, Controls & Public Company Discipline
  • Partner with the VP of Finance to ensure alignment with:
  • AAP, SOX, internal control, and reporting requirements
  • Novanta financial policies and enterprise expectations
  • Support Corporate Finance interactions through the VP of Finance to ensure consistent communication and escalation pathways.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and develop BU finance talent, aligned to direction and priorities set by the VP of Finance.
  • Serve as a role model for finance partnership, analytical rigor, and leadership behavior across the BU.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
  • 8+ years of progressive finance experience, including senior leadership roles
  • Experience supporting global manufacturing environments
  • Experience supporting a global business unit in a public company environment
  • Strong background in FP&A, business partnership, and manufacturing operations finance
  • Experience working in matrixed, cross-cultural organizations
  • Fluency in English

Preferred

  • MBA, CPA, CFA, or equivalent
  • Experience in Medical Devices, Life Sciences, or highly regulated manufacturing industries.
  • Experience supporting businesses in the $100M+ revenue range.
  • Exposure to M&A, integrations, or carve-outs.

Compensation

  • The salary for this role will range from 147,345.00 - 220,200.00 USD annual based on full-time employment. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to location, relevant skills, training, experience, education, etc.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation and/or long-term incentives. Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
