The Vice President, Pharmacy Programs is responsible for developing and driving innovative pharmacy benefit and operational strategies that ensure an excellent experience for Priority Health customers and will also work in collaboration with the Corewell Health Pharmacy leadership to proactively lower the cost of care. This key position will provide executive leadership to a team responsible for the organization's pharmacy department including clinical programs, pharmacy administration, pharmacy operations, pharmacy government programs, drug company contracting and rebate management, pharmacy client account management, pharmacy sales & marketing, and pharmacy strategic initiatives. The VP, Pharmacy of Programs will develop metrics, both financial and non-financial, to ensure efficient and effective programs in all areas of responsibility in order to meet bottom-line marketability and corporate operating margins. Effectiveness of decisions will be long-lasting and will influence the future course of the organization.
The Vice President, Pharmacy Programs will oversee the successful development and implementation of organizational-wide strategies as it relates to the utilization of pharmaceutical products across the medical and pharmacy benefits and will create cutting edge pharmacy benefit and utilization programs that meet the needs of both the Priority Health and Corewell Health current and future populations. Additionally, this position will develop and drive leading edge pharmacy programs to ensure Priority Health is considered the health plan of choice throughout the service area. The VP, Pharmacy Programs must work collaboratively to engage other teams in cross functional improvements that impact the utilization of pharmaceutical products.
In addition to working with the Corewell Health Pharmacy leadership the VP, Pharmacy Programs will work with the President of Priority Health and the President of Corewell Health West to ensure we are lowering the cost of care by sharing data and ideas. This position will participate in the execution of the corporate-wide strategic plan. In addition, this individual will actively participate in various provider committees.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the pharmacy benefit program to create an excellent experience for Priority Health customers and ensure that Priority Health is considered the health plan of choice throughout the service area. Work with Corewell

  • Health Enterprise Pharmacy Executive leader and leadership team to proactively lower the cost of care by sharing data and ideas. Work to ensure Corewell Health is the pharmacy provider of choice if cost is comparable or less expensive than alternative sources.

  • Develop and implement cutting edge strategies for management of pharmaceutical service to budget. Be accountable for performance to budget utilization and cost targets for all pharmacy services, including the pharmacy and medical benefit.

  • Work to develop and execute on the strategic vision, goals, objectives, policies and decision making for the organization related to pharmacy performance and operations. Inform and advise the senior leaders within the organization as well as the executive leadership teams regarding current trends, problems and activities in the pharmacy program to facilitate informed decision-making and strategic objective formulation.

  • Effectively negotiate and manage the contracted vendor relationships supporting the pharmacy benefit including claims administration, retail pharmacy network, mail service network, specialty pharmacy network, rebate management, and auditing services. Collaborate on the Corewell Health inpatient and outpatient formulary management and planning. If claims are increasing for specific services, work with Corewell Health on models that can fit the needs for both Priority Health and Corewell Health.

  • Support the market-specific business needs for all markets including developing benefit designs, attending sales presentations, providing market-specific pharmacy operational data, etc.

  • Develop and execute on the annual budgets and five-year plans, in accordance with corporate and regional targets, and monitor/manage actual performance.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate Registered Pharmacist or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree. Required

  • Doctorate Pharmacy Practice Residency. Preferred

  • Master's Degree MBA, MHA, or MPH. Preferred

  • 10 years of relevant experience leadership experience. Required

  • Licensed Clinical Pharmacist - State of Michigan Upon Hire. Required
