Essential Duties and Responsibilities


The Pharmacy Director ensures the safe and effective use and administration of medications through proper storage, handling, evaluation, preparation, compounding, labeling, and dispensing. In addition, The Pharmacy Director will provide oversight of the hospital pharmacy's clinical, operational, administrative, staffing, and financial management. Pharmacy Director educates patients and caregivers about drugs and their use. They also provide patient counseling and customer service. While advising physicians and other healthcare team members on medication selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects. The Pharmacy Director will assign tasks, supervise and coach Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, and support the Corporate Director of Pharmacy's strategy. The Pharmacy Director will also serve as a member of the hospital Leadership Team.


Requirements

Licenses or Certifications

  • Current license to practice as a Pharmacist in the state where currently practicing.

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Experience with the hands-on build out of a pharmacy department and hospital pharmacy operations is a plus, from pre-opening to department launch, including:
  • Completing licensure applications
  • Pharmacy inspection
  • Implementation of automated dispensing cabinets (pending and loading medications)
  • Pre-packaging medications
  • Interviewing and training staff
  • B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Previous hospital supervisory experience required.
  • 5 years of experience in a hospital or clinical setting (experience in rehabilitation preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, and medication safety principles.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks.
  • Commitment to patient education and providing compassionate care.
