Position Summary

As a volunteer member of the Board of Directors, you will provide governance oversight and strategic leadership for Affinity Plus. Directors work collaboratively with fellow Board members and executive leadership to support organizational success, monitor performance, and ensure the credit union remains financially sound and member-focused.

• Uphold fiduciary responsibilities and act in the best interests of the membership.
• Serve as ambassadors for Affinity Plus and its cooperative values.

Qualifications
We welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. To ensure diverse perspectives and strong representation of our membership, we are particularly interested in individuals who live in Greater Minnesota communities and those who bring experience in legal, entrepreneurial/small business, or marketing disciplines.

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

• A commitment to cooperative principles and member-focused service.
• Previous board, governance, or nonprofit leadership experience.
• Strategic planning and organizational leadership expertise.
• An understanding of the diverse communities served by Affinity Plus.
• Awareness of risks, opportunities, and emerging trends within financial services.
• An appreciation for the role financial well-being plays in strengthening individuals, families, and communities.
• Curiosity, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn.
• The ability to dedicate the time and energy necessary to fulfill Board responsibilities.
Preferred Experience
While not required, we are especially interested in candidates who bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Legal, regulatory, compliance, or risk management experience
• Technology, IT and AI experience
• Entrepreneurship, small business ownership, or small business leadership
• Marketing, brand strategy, communications, public relations, or member/customer engagement
• Leadership experience within Greater Minnesota communities, helping ensure the Board reflects the geographic diversity of our membership

Most importantly, we seek leaders who are passionate about helping people improve their financial lives and who are committed to advancing Affinity Plus's mission, values, and cooperative purpose.

Time Commitment

Board Meetings
• Monthly meetings, typically held on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
• Approximately 3-4 hours per meeting.
• Combination of in-person and virtual participation.
• Advance review of meeting materials required.
• Regular attendance and active participation expected.

Committee Service
Directors serve on at least one Board committee, including:
• Governance Committee
• Nominating Committee
• Executive Committee
Committee participation generally requires an additional 2-4 hours per month.

Annual Strategic Planning
This collaborative session helps establish priorities and guide the future direction of Affinity Plus.
• Participation in an annual full-day strategic planning session.
• Typically held each September.

Board Education and Development
Affinity Plus is committed to supporting Board member growth and development through educational opportunities, conferences, and industry seminars.

As a federally regulated credit union, Affinity Plus operates under National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) requirements. Directors are expected to develop and maintain a working knowledge of:

• Financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements
