Description

Ride Together is a GMT travel training program dedicated to assisting community members in becoming familiar with local public transportation options, allowing for increased independence, safety, and confidence of our riders.
Description and Essential Functions

 

GMT Travel Advisors play a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals seeking to become more familiar with local public transportation. Through travel training modules provided by GMT, you will ensure that a wide variety of prospective passengers, including youth, students, adults, older adults, and English language learners have the skills they need to use GMT bus services comfortably, safely, and effectively. This volunteer position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of fellow community members. Key responsibilities include:
 

- Teach transit basics: Educate trainees (on a group or individual level) on the fundamentals of using public transportation.
- Teach transit safety: Educate trainees (on a group or individual level) on safety practices when using public transportation.
- Travel alongside trainees: Accompany trainees (on a group or individual level) on practice trips to help them become comfortable with the public transportation system, offering guidance and support as needed.
- Promote the benefits of public transit: Dispel negative misconceptions about public transit and solidify reasons to use public transit.
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate records of training sessions and the progress of each trainee.

Qualifications
 

- Knowledge of GMT's local public transportation system.
- Strong communication and teaching skills.
- Ability to be flexible with learning materials for an individualized learning experience.
- Patience and empathy for individuals with diverse learning needs.
- Punctuality and reliability.
- Willingness to undergo any necessary background checks or training.
- Customer service experience preferred but not required.
