What are viruses?

Viruses are microscopic infectious agents that can only replicate inside the living cells of an organism. They consist of genetic material, either DNA or RNA, surrounded by a protein coat, and sometimes an outer lipid envelope. Viruses infect all types of life forms, including animals, plants, fungi, and bacteria. Unlike living organisms, viruses are not considered alive because they cannot carry out metabolic processes on their own.

What profession deals with viruses?

Virologists are scientists who study viruses, including their structure, function, and ways to prevent or treat infections. They often work in laboratories, research institutions, or healthcare settings and may require specialized training and certifications. Their work is essential for developing vaccines and understanding viral diseases.
