What is virtual training?

Virtual training refers to educational or instructional sessions delivered remotely via digital platforms, allowing participants to learn from any location with internet access. It often uses video conferencing tools, interactive modules, and online resources to simulate a classroom experience. Virtual training can be live (synchronous), self-paced (asynchronous), or a mix of both, and is commonly used for employee onboarding, professional development, and skill-building. This flexible approach enables organizations and individuals to efficiently access training without geographical limitations.

What are some common challenges faced by Virtual Training professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Virtual Training professionals often encounter challenges such as keeping participants engaged remotely, managing technical issues, and ensuring effective communication. To address these, trainers can use interactive tools like polls, breakout rooms, and quizzes to foster participation. Job Description

HII Mission Technologies is seeking an Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to support the Joint Integrated Test and Training Center - Nellis (JITTCN) at Nellis AFB. In this role, you will provide cybersecurity oversight, RMF documentation, system security engineering support, and continuous monitoring for advanced modeling and simulation (M&S) systems-including environments such as the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE), Virtual Air Training System (VATS), and other highend virtual training architectures supporting USAFWC/ACC mission sets.

  • Support cybersecurity compliance and continuous monitoring for virtual training systems, distributed simulation environments, and related mission systems.
  • Evaluate and document security controls for systems supporting highfidelity simulation, virtual air training, and distributed mission operations.
  • Assist in securing network architectures and system configurations used in environments such as VATS, JSE, and other USAFWC/ACC training systems.
  • Maintain configuration records for workstations, servers, routers, firewalls, switches, and simulationrelated infrastructure.
  • Provide cybersecurity guidance to engineering and M&S teams developing or modifying virtual training systems.
  • Lead Assessment & Authorization (A&A) processes and support ongoing RMF compliance activities.
  • Report cybersecurity incidents to the ISSM through formal reports and briefings.
  • Support implementation and enforcement of information system security policies, standards, and methodologies.
  • Conduct technical analysis, troubleshooting, and coordination with customers, vendors, and internal teams as required.
  • Provide technical training and product briefings to customers and stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Experience using DISA ACAS, ESS, ePO, and Trellix.
  • Experience with STIGs, SCAP, SCC, RMF Bodies of Evidence, JSIG, vulnerability scanning, logging tools, LogRhythm, ACAS/NESSUS, and McAfee HBSS.
  • Strong understanding of RMF processes and cybersecurity compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced, teamoriented environment with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Credentials

  • DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE).
  • Compliance with DoD Cyber IT/CSWF Program requirements (DoD 8140.03M, SECNAV M5239.2).
  • Must have held an active Top Secret clearance within the last 24 months.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI and relevant SAP/SAR access.
Preferred Requirements

  • Strong understanding of RMF, JSIG, and RMF Bodies of Evidence.
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity for M&S systems such as VATS, JSE, DMO, or other virtual training environments.
