Virtual PRs, or Virtual Public Relations professionals, are specialists who manage a company's public image and communications remotely using digital tools. They handle media relations, social media strategies, press releases, and crisis communication, all without being physically present in the client's office. Virtual PRs leverage online platforms and virtual meetings to maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, journalists, and audiences. This role is ideal for organizations seeking flexible and cost-effective PR solutions in today's digital landscape.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a virtual PR?

To thrive as a Virtual Project Manager, you need strong project management expertise, organizational skills, and typically a degree in business or a related field, often supplemented by PMP or similar certifications. Familiarity with project management platforms like Asana, Trello, or Microsoft Project, as well as remote communication tools such as Slack and Zoom, is essential. Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills help facilitate team collaboration and problem-solving across virtual environments. These competencies are crucial for ensuring projects are completed efficiently and successfully while keeping distributed teams aligned and motivated.

Virtual Project Managers often navigate challenges such as coordinating teams across different time zones, maintaining clear communication without face-to-face interactions, and ensuring team accountability remotely. To address these, successful managers leverage collaborative tools (like Slack, Trello, or Asana), establish clear communication protocols, and schedule regular check-ins to keep everyone aligned. Building strong relationships and fostering a culture of transparency also help maintain team cohesion and project momentum.

Help Shape the Future of Affinity Plus

Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union is seeking passionate, forward-thinking leaders to serve as volunteer members of our Board of Directors. As a member-owned financial cooperative, Affinity Plus is governed by a Board elected from and by its membership. Directors play a key role in representing members' interests, providing strategic oversight, and helping ensure the long-term success of the organization.

About Affinity Plus

Affinity Plus is dedicated to improving the financial lives of our members through a cooperative, member-focused approach. Our nine-member Board brings together leaders from diverse backgrounds and experiences to guide the organization's strategy, governance, and future growth.
Position Summary

As a volunteer member of the Board of Directors, you will provide governance oversight and strategic leadership for Affinity Plus. Directors work collaboratively with fellow Board members and executive leadership to support organizational success, monitor performance, and ensure the credit union remains financially sound and member-focused.

Key Responsibilities

Board members are expected to:
• Contribute to the development and oversight of Affinity Plus's long-term strategic vision.
• Review and approve organizational policies, annual budgets, and major initiatives.
• Monitor organizational performance and financial health.
• Evaluate and support the performance of the President/CEO.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen Affinity Plus and advance the credit union movement.
• Uphold fiduciary responsibilities and act in the best interests of the membership.
• Serve as ambassadors for Affinity Plus and its cooperative values.

Qualifications
We welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. To ensure diverse perspectives and strong representation of our membership, we are particularly interested in individuals who live in Greater Minnesota communities and those who bring experience in legal, entrepreneurial/small business, or marketing disciplines.

Successful candidates will demonstrate:
• Finance experience.
• A commitment to cooperative principles and member-focused service.
• Previous board, governance, or nonprofit leadership experience.
• Strategic planning and organizational leadership expertise.
• An understanding of the diverse communities served by Affinity Plus.
• Awareness of risks, opportunities, and emerging trends within financial services.
• An appreciation for the role financial well-being plays in strengthening individuals, families, and communities.
• Curiosity, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn.
• The ability to dedicate the time and energy necessary to fulfill Board responsibilities.

Preferred Experience
While not required, we are especially interested in candidates who bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Legal, regulatory, compliance, or risk management experience
• Technology, IT and AI experience
• Entrepreneurship, small business ownership, or small business leadership
• Marketing, brand strategy, communications, public relations, or member/customer engagement
• Leadership experience within Greater Minnesota communities, helping ensure the Board reflects the geographic diversity of our membership

Most importantly, we seek leaders who are passionate about helping people improve their financial lives and who are committed to advancing Affinity Plus's mission, values, and cooperative purpose.

Time Commitment

Board Meetings
• Monthly meetings, typically held on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
• Approximately 3-4 hours per meeting.
• Combination of in-person and virtual participation.
• Advance review of meeting materials required.
• Regular attendance and active participation expected.

Committee Service
Directors serve on at least one Board committee, including:
• Governance Committee
• Nominating Committee
• Executive Committee
Committee participation generally requires an additional 2-4 hours per month.

Annual Strategic Planning
This collaborative session helps establish priorities and guide the future direction of Affinity Plus.
• Participation in an annual full-day strategic planning session.
• Typically held each September.

Board Education and Development
Affinity Plus is committed to supporting Board member growth and development through educational opportunities, conferences, and industry seminars.

As a federally regulated credit union, Affinity Plus operates under National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) requirements. Directors are expected to develop and maintain a working knowledge of:

• Financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements
• Credit union governance and operations
• Regulatory and compliance considerations
• Risk management and strategic oversight

Directors should be prepared to actively participate in ongoing education to strengthen their effectiveness as Board leaders and ensure compliance with NCUA expectations.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:
• Be at least 18 years old.
• Be an Affinity Plus member in good standing, or become a member before assuming Board responsibilities.
• Meet attendance, participation, and educational expectations.
• Successfully complete required background, credit, and reference checks.
• Be eligible for bonding under Affinity Plus insurance requirements.

Term of Service
• Directors serve three-year elected terms.
• The successful candidate will begin service in March 2027 following the Annual Meeting.

Why Serve on the Board?
