This role allows campaign staff and volunteers to engage with voters, organize events, and promote political messaging without needing to be in a physical office. It is especially important in modern campaigns where digital engagement plays a crucial role in reaching and mobilizing supporters.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a virtual political campaign?

To excel in a Virtual Political Campaign role, you need deep knowledge of political strategy, data analysis, and digital communication, often supported by experience in political science or campaign management. Organizational Summary

The mission of the California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) is to uphold the humanity of immigrant communities in California by transforming systems to achieve racial, social, and economic justice. CIPC is a non-partisan, non-profit statewide organization engaging in advocacy, organizing, and strategic communications to uplift immigrant communities. CIPC was founded in response to the 1996 passage of federal immigrant and welfare laws that profoundly affected immigrants. Today, CIPC advances inclusive policies that build a prosperous future for all Californians through policy analysis, advocacy, organizing, and communications.

Over the past 30 years, CIPC has led groundbreaking campaigns that have greatly expanded protections and access to publicly funded services for California's low-income immigrant communities, including but not limited to the Safe and Responsible Driver Act, the TRUST and TRUTH Acts, the California Values Act, the Health for All campaign, California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC), and One California-the largest state investment in immigration legal services in the country.

Position Summary

The Digital Communications Specialist plays a central role in building and engaging CIPC's digital base to advance advocacy campaigns and generate grassroots financial support for the organization. This position sits on the Digital Communications Team within the Communications Department and works closely with Organizing, Policy, and Development staff to create compelling digital content that moves people to action.

The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for producing engaging, values-driven content across social media, email, and other digital platforms to grow CIPC's online following, deepen supporter engagement, and mobilize supporters for advocacy actions and digital fundraising campaigns. This role blends storytelling, political education, and digital persuasion, with a strong focus on converting online engagement into meaningful participation and donations.

This position offers an opportunity to shape CIPC's digital communications work, expand its online reach, and directly support the organization's advocacy and fundraising goals through creative, strategic content.

This position will be based in Los Angeles or Southern California. Occasional travel throughout California is required.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Content Creation & Strategy

  • Create original, compelling digital content (graphics, photos, short videos, motion graphics, copy, memes, and toolkits) for social media, email, and other digital platforms that align with CIPC's mission and campaign.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent, values-driven digital communications language that centers immigrant dignity, racial justice, and movement-building.
  • Collaborate with the Supervising Digital Communications Manager to plan and execute content calendars aligned with CIPC's advocacy, organizing, and fundraising priorities.

Base-Building & Engagement

  • Grow CIPC's digital audience across platforms by producing shareable, engaging content that reaches new supporters.
  • Engage with followers and supporters online to build relationships and foster a sense of community and belonging.
  • Monitor platform trends and adapt content strategies to maximize reach, engagement, and supporter growth.

Advocacy Campaign Support

  • Produce content in a rapid-response manner to support advocacy campaigns, legislative fights, and moments of political urgency.
  • Work closely with Policy and Organizing teams to translate complex policy issues into accessible, action-oriented digital content.
  • Support and drive digital actions such as petitions, call-in days, rallies, and virtual events through compelling digital content and storytelling.

Digital Fundraising

  • Play a key role in planning and executing digital fundraising campaigns, including email appeals, social media fundraising pushes, and peer-to-peer efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Development and Communications teams to create donor-facing content that highlights impact, urgency, and movement wins.
  • Support testing and iteration of digital fundraising content to improve engagement and donation conversion.

Data, Reporting & Optimization

  • Track and analyze performance metrics (engagement, growth, clicks, conversions) to inform digital content strategy and improvement.
  • Assist with reporting on digital campaign outcomes and fundraising performance.
  • Use data and feedback to refine content approaches and audience targeting.

Organizational Collaboration

  • Coordinate closely with Communications, Organizing, and Development staff to ensure alignment across campaigns.
  • Work with the Communications team to develop and present narrative and communications trainings to strengthen partner organizations' communications capacity.
  • Represent CIPC's digital organizing work in internal meetings and cross-departmental planning.
  • Represent CIPC at organizational events, actions, and convenings as appropriate.

Other responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in digital media, content creation, digital organizing, social media, communications, or related fields.
  • Advanced proficiency in tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar content creation platforms preferred.
  • Experience with email and digital fundraising platforms (e.g., Action Network, EveryAction, Mailchimp).
  • Demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights, racial justice, and economic justice.
  • Strong storytelling and writing skills, with the ability to create compelling, concise content for online audiences.
  • Photography, livestreaming and video production experience is a plus.
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, Facebook) and email campaigns.
  • Experience supporting or executing digital advocacy or fundraising campaigns preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and incorporate feedback.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics platforms (e.g. Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer, etc.) to inform strategy.
  • Proficiency in non-English languages spoken by Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, African, Caribbean, or Arab communities is a plus.
