What is a Virtual Political Campaign job?

A Virtual Political Campaign job involves supporting a political candidate or organization remotely through digital and online efforts. Responsibilities may include social media management, voter outreach, data analysis, content creation, and fundraising. This role allows campaign staff and volunteers to engage with voters, organize events, and promote political messaging without needing to be in a physical office. It is especially important in modern campaigns where digital engagement plays a crucial role in reaching and mobilizing supporters.

What are some typical challenges faced when working on a virtual political campaign?

One common challenge in virtual political campaign roles is coordinating teams and volunteers across different time zones and locations, which requires strong digital communication and project management skills. Staying ahead of constantly evolving social media trends and digital security threats also demands ongoing learning and vigilance. Additionally, balancing rapid response needs with long-term strategic planning can be demanding, as campaigns often require quick pivots based on real-time data or current events. Despite these challenges, working virtually enables greater flexibility and access to a wider talent pool, allowing for diverse ideas and innovative campaign strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Virtual Political Campaign position, and why are they important?

To excel in a Virtual Political Campaign role, you need deep knowledge of political strategy, data analysis, and digital communication, often supported by experience in political science or campaign management. Familiarity with tools such as online fundraising platforms, social media management systems, voter databases (like NGP VAN), and email marketing software is crucial. Excellent written and verbal communication, adaptability, and strong organizational skills set candidates apart. These competencies are vital to effectively coordinate online campaign efforts, mobilize supporters, and analyze digital engagement to drive strategic decisions.

Job description

Demand Justice: Administrative Coordinator

Reporting To: Chief of Staff

Location: Washington, D.C. (Hybrid)

Salary Range: $65,000 – 70,000

A strong judiciary—fair and trusted in the eyes of the public—is critical to any truly free society. Demand Justice is a grassroots advocacy organization that fights for our courts, holds those who confirm dangerous judicial nominees accountable, and builds a vision and plan for resisting attacks on the rule of law.

Demand Justice seeks an Administrative Coordinator to provide critical operational support to the organization's President's time and to ensure the smooth functioning of the organization as a whole. The day-to-day work of this position will vary from administrative matters to assisting with priority programs for the organization.

The Administrative Coordinator is an innovative self-starter, who takes initiative and drives projects and tasks to completion. The individual thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates strong time management and impeccable attention to detail, and can work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team. The individual must exercise discretion, demonstrate good judgment, be adaptive, flexible, and trustworthy.

This role will report directly to Demand Justice's Chief of Staff while also being in close contact with the organization's President. The role will not have any direct reports but will be expected to manage the organization's relationship with relevant outside consultants and vendors.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the President's calendar and scheduling, including coordinating internal and external meetings.

  • Book and manage the President's travel for out-of-town events and meetings, including flights, accommodations, and ground transportation.

  • Support the President's workflow by anticipating needs and preparing materials for board meetings and other high-level engagements as requested.

  • Assist other senior leaders and projects as needed.

  • Support the Chief of Staff with administrative tasks, such as credit card reconciliation, expense coding, contracting, and onboarding logistics.

  • Act as the primary point of contact with Demand Justice's IT vendor.

  • Coordinate internal scheduling for staff and board meetings and events.

  • Take detailed notes during staff meetings, capturing decisions made and next steps.

  • Maintain shared drives, digital filing systems, and project tracking tools as requested.

  • Oversee office logistics, including ordering supplies, sorting mail, managing vendor relationships, and addressing facilities needs.

  • Oversee event coordination, including working with external vendors (e.g. hotels, caterers, meeting venues) and running point on day-of logistics

  • Provide support for virtual or hybrid meetings and events, including light technology setup and troubleshooting.

Skills and Qualifications
  • At least 2 – 3 years of related work experience

  • Experience in a fast-paced non-profit or political campaign environment.

  • A demonstrated ability to show discretion and confidentiality when needed.

  • Willingness to learn quickly and adapt to fast-moving situations.

  • Strong writing and communications skills.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Ability to carry out assignments independently.

  • Commitment to Demand Justice's progressive mission.
