Job description

Position Purpose
Support the Mechanical Contracting division by streamlining field projects through fabrication by using VDC technology and tools. Model piping installation solutions in 3D design software, create installation drawings for the field tradesmen and create fabrication drawings for the shop tradesmen.
Position Responsibilities
  • Design the installation of mechanical and HVAC piping systems in Revit.
  • Collaborate with Engineers, Project Managers and Field Foreman to provide design solutions and assist in scheduling and execution of work.
  • Assist the VDC Field Technician as needed by providing BIM related solutions through hands-on, direct work surveying jobsites and coordinating layout using BIM field surveying and layout tools.
  • Support the pipe design effort for HVAC and refrigeration piping systems, create spools sheets for shop fabrication and create installation drawings for field installation.
  • Program shop CNC pipe profiling machine (HGG), create cut lists and material lists for projects.
  • Order material, schedule deliveries and coordinate project deadlines with the shop and field Foreman.
  • Convert field drawings and sketches into isometric software and generate reports and files for shop fabrication of the work.
  • Create weld maps, document changes and file documentation and drawings in project folders.
  • Field measure existing facilities, as needed and develop drawings for the system installations.
  • Work with Engineers, Project Managers, Field Foreman VDC Department, Programmers and Shop Foreman to provide design solutions and assist in scheduling and execution of the work.
  • Assist in developing standards for BIM and its use within planning, estimating, operations and business development to stream-line process and methods.
  • Support and maintain a safe and Lean work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Summary of Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • 5+ years' experience in the field installation of ammonia refrigeration and HVAC piping systems.
  • Strong understanding of shop fabrication practices, tools and welding methods.
  • Strong desire and commitment to learn 3D design software programs, Isometric drawing software, CNC software and Virtual Design and Construction methods and tools.
  • Ability to read and understand contract documents, drawings, P&ID's and project specifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record and operate company vehicles.
  • Able to multi-task and set priorities
