Virtual Events information

What are some common challenges faced by professionals coordinating virtual events, and how can they be addressed?

Coordinating virtual events often involves navigating technical difficulties, ensuring attendee engagement, and managing communication across remote teams. Common challenges include troubleshooting platform issues in real-time, keeping participants interactive in an online setting, and coordinating schedules across different time zones. To address these, many professionals conduct thorough platform testing beforehand, incorporate interactive elements like polls or breakout sessions, and establish clear communication protocols with both internal teams and event participants. Flexibility and proactive problem-solving are key skills for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Virtual Events Coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Events Coordinator, you need strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and experience in event planning or project management, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with virtual event platforms (such as Zoom, Hopin, or Webex), registration tools, and basic audiovisual technology is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and adaptability are standout soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure seamless event execution, positive attendee experiences, and the ability to handle unexpected challenges in a remote environment.

What are virtual events?

Virtual events are gatherings that take place online rather than in a physical location. They can include conferences, webinars, workshops, trade shows, and networking events, allowing participants to connect and interact via digital platforms. Virtual events often feature live streaming, interactive sessions, chat tools, and digital content sharing, making them accessible to a global audience. They have become increasingly popular due to their convenience, cost-effectiveness, and ability to reach wider audiences.

Job description

The opportunity

Altruist is in a transformative phase of growth, and we're looking for a Sr Manager of Event Marketing to help propel us into our next chapter. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, this high-impact role will lead the strategy and execution of Altruist's event programs across in-person and virtual formats. You'll oversee one report and together you'll bring to life hosted field events, tradeshows, and a series of virtual events - all designed to engage our audience, build brand affinity, and drive measurable pipeline impact.

*This is hybrid role, requiring three days per week in our San Francisco or Culver City office.

Your impact

  • Lead a high-velocity in-person and virtual events function, owning strategy and execution that align with go-to-market priorities, drive brand visibility, and deliver measurable ROI.
  • Strategically determine where we show up (and where we don't), ensuring every event supports business goals and is tailored to our ICP.
  • Lead team in the end-to-end planning and execution of events-including Altruist flagship hosted events, regional hosted events, virtual programs, and industry tradeshows-overseeing budgets, timelines, logistics, vendor management, on-site production, and promotion and post-event follow-up. Travel as needed to ensure flawless execution.
  • Craft impactful event programming with Content and Product Marketing teams that delivers thought leadership, showcases product innovation and builds community through high-value content.
  • Manage the full event marketing lifecycle, working cross-functionally with Growth, Creative, and Content to drive pre-event promotion, in-event engagement, and post-event follow-up and lead capture.
  • Define and track KPIs to measure pipeline impact, engagement, and ROI. Use post-event insights to optimize future programs and continuously improve performance.
  • Refine and scale event processes and playbooks to ensure operational consistency, efficiency, and high-quality execution across all event formats.
  • Manage and evolve the event tech stack to support an AI-first, data-driven approach, while overseeing external agencies and production partners to ensure scalability, brand alignment, and strong ROI.

What you bring

  • 7-10 years of experience leading high-impact events in a B2B environment, with proven ability to drive pipeline, revenue, and brand visibility.
  • A track record of owning complex event portfolios- from flagship conferences to hosted events and executive programs-and delivering them flawlessly under pressure.
  • Operate fluidly across levels and stakeholders - from internal cross-functional partners to external speakers - in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Be an excellent communicator
  • Demonstrated strength in managing and optimizing large-scale event budgets while consistently achieving or exceeding ROI targets.
  • Relentless focus on project management with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines, teams, and priorities without sacrificing quality.
  • Fluency in latest event platforms and marketing tech, including Bizzabo, Zoom Webinars, HubSpot, and Salesforce.
