The STEM Learning Lab in the UC Irvine School of Education is currently seeking applicants for an instructional coach for elementary school teachers. The Active Playful Learning (APL) Coach will work with the STEM Learning Lab research team, a subrecipient of a LEGO Foundation education grant, to assist in meeting the national project's goal of measuring the impact of Active Playful Learning in classrooms across the U.S. As part of the team, the APL Coach will help implement APL practices into a classroom setting by observing, training, and coaching elementary teachers in local school districts. This will require the APL coach to work both on-site in elementary schools within Orange County, and remotely.

Your Role on the Team

Uses professional public educational program concepts in the completion of public education assignments. Works on programs and needs assessments that are of moderate scope and complexity. Modifies existing public educational programs or develops segments of larger programs.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Strong reading, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation and relationship-building skills
  • Strong instructional expertise and ability to support adult learning
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Continuing education in related field required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experienceTeaching K-12


Driver's License:

  • Required to hold a valid drivers license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.


Preferred:

  • Experience in instructional coaching or related roles
  • Experience in teaching elementary literacy and/or mathematics
  • Experience teaching Kindergarten and/or Grade 1-4
  • Experience in development, preparation, and presentation of professional development
  • Good analytical skills to understand how research needs can be addressed through the design and delivery of training programs.
  • Working knowledge of departmental and organization policies and procedures; knowledge of APL program content and research objectives.
  • Working knowledge of current public education, delivering public educational programs, and understanding the classroom's demographic and needs.
  • Working skills to produce and deliver programs coinciding with APL practices that fit the needs of the classroom.
  • Working knowledge of conducting needs assessment.
  • Graduate degree in early childhood education, education, or related field
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates

  • Reliable transportation between school sites
  • Combination of in-person and virtual coaching
  • If applicable, may be assigned to coach a dual-immersion classroom
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, standard school hours with occasional extended hours for professional learning
