Job description

The Certified Wellness Coach I (CWC) is a state-certified role created by Californiaโ€™s Department of Health Access and Information as part of the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative.  The Certified Wellness Coach I provides prevention and early intervention services to support the behavioral health and well-being of children and youth. 

Under the supervision of a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credentialed professional or licensed clinician, the Certified Wellness Coach I can operate in schools, as well as in school-based and community-based settings.  This role also offers a career path for those interested in supporting children and youth mental health, providing consistent training for entry-level employees, and allowing them to work in the field without needing a masterโ€™s degree.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Certified Wellness Coach I or Registered-Certified Wellness Coach I certification through the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) required
  • Associates degree or higher in a relevant field required
  • Prior experience working with children and youth required 
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice 
  • Current CPR if applicable
  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable 
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
