Audio Visual Technician

About the Role


The Academic AV Technician supports the technical execution of campus events, classrooms, conferences, and hybrid productions through professional AV setup, live troubleshooting, and client-focused support. This role requires strong technical knowledge, reliability, organization, communication skills, and the ability to perform effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure event environments.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate audiovisual equipment for campus events, classrooms, conferences, and sporting events
  • Support hybrid and virtual events using Zoom and portable Zoom Room systems
  • Configure and troubleshoot PA systems, microphones, speakers, cameras, and audio mixers
  • Monitor and manage AV signal flow, networking connections, and live event production systems
  • Provide real-time technical support during live events and presentations
  • Communicate professionally with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and event clients
  • Maintain organization and tracking of AV inventory, asset tags, and equipment storage
  • Transport, set up, and strike AV equipment before and after events
  • Perform routine equipment testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Coordinate multiple event setups while ensuring reliability, punctuality, and strong follow-through on assigned responsibilities


Qualifications


Technical Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in audiovisual support, live events, higher education, or conference production environments
  • Strong technical knowledge of AV systems including PA systems, microphones, speakers, cameras, audio mixers, projectors, and hybrid event technology
  • Experience supporting Zoom meetings, webinars, and portable Zoom Room configurations
  • Understanding of AV signal flow, basic networking, streaming workflows, and troubleshooting techniques
  • Ability to quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues in live, high-pressure environments
  • Experience with inventory management, asset tagging, equipment organization, and maintenance procedures
  • Ability to set up, operate, and strike AV systems in a variety of environments including classrooms, conferences, outdoor events, and sporting events
  • Ability to lift and transport AV equipment and work in a variety of event settings indoors and outdoors
