Position Summary

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for reviewing and evaluating Hybrid-Fiber-Coax (HFC) and Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) construction projects. Duties include verifying plan designs against new builds, span and drop replacements, risers, aerial installations, bonding and grounding of strand (messenger), proper installation of ADSS self-supporting fiber-optic cable, splice cases and cabinets, splitters and XWDM, underground installations (bores, vaults, and trenches), and MDU lockbox replacements.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform site surveys of as-built and proposed projects; complete red-line documentation to ensure accuracy and feasibility.
  • Conduct construction inspections for quality control in accordance with customer's Technical Quality Assurance (TQA) standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and verify property restoration meets customer standards.
  • Operate test equipment to confirm optical and RF power levels meet design specifications.
  • Document (with still images and/or video) that aerial construction, underground vaults, and cabinets are installed per customer requirements.
  • Prepare work orders to resolve any plant element not meeting specifications.
  • Communicateconstructionconcerns tothe Project Manager or Supervisor.
  • Perform emergency locates as needed.
  • Work weekends or second shifts as required by business needs.
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years' experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of outside plant (OSP) supporting telecommunications (Telephone, CATV, High-Speed Internet).
  • 2+ years' experience with communications service drops and home installations.
  • 1+ year as a Maintenance Technician or equivalent.
  • Construction work experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of safe construction practices for aerial and underground communications networks.
  • Knowledge of standard industry practices, work orders, scheduling processes, and N.E.C./N.E.S.C. codes for OSP and building environments.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, organization, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and standard computer operating systems.
  • Ability to read/interpret maps, blueprints, and system layouts.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly and professionally.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to operate hand tools (electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers).
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather, traverse varied terrain, and carry tools/equipment (including ladders and tool belts).
  • Ability to work from heights (poles, ladders, roofs) using safety equipment within weight limits.
  • Ability to measure distances accurately and produce clear photo/video documentation.
  • Ability to carry, climb, and operate extension ladders (up to 32 ft., 50lbs).
  • Ability to differentiate wire sizes/colors.
  • Ability to operate test equipment (signal level meters, ohm meters, etc.) and machinery for cable installation.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods (50-70% of shift).
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics.
  • Industry/vendor certifications (NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E) preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
