Job description

C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc., the leading asphalt manufacturer and road builder in Georgia, is currently seeking an Asphalt Quality Control Technician to join our team in North West Atlanta. The primary responsibility of the Quality Control Technician is to perform routine testing of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and assist in adjusting plant settings to ensure compliance with job specifications and agency standards.
This role involves performing essential quality control functions, such as sampling, data collection, and testing, while assisting in mix design development and making necessary adjustments to plant production.

Key Responsibilities:
  • QC Testing: Perform daily quality control testing on Hot Mix Asphalt as required by governing agencies and at the discretion of the QC Manager.
  • Sample Collection: Collect samples for testing to ensure asphalt quality meets specifications.
  • Data Collection amp; Reporting: Record and report test results and data accurately, ensuring timely submission to the QC Manager.
  • Mix Design Assistance: Assist in developing mix designs and making changes to plant production to meet required specifications.
  • Stockpile Analysis: Conduct stockpile analysis on incoming aggregates and RAP (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) stockpiles as needed.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate basic testing equipment and measuring devices to ensure asphalt quality.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Skills:
    • Basic knowledge of materials, including asphalt.
    • Good penmanship, record-keeping abilities, and basic computer skills.
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
    • Ability to communicate effectively using the company radio and in team settings.
  • Mathematical Skills: Strong ability to perform basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentages, and weights).
  • Reading amp; Comprehension: Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and use measuring devices.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform strenuous physical work as required on the job site.
  • Experience: At least six months of experience in asphalt quality control is preferred. GDOT Asphalt Level I amp; II training is a plus, but not required.
  • Availability: Must be willing to work nights and weekends as required.
  • Driver’s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license for the territory of operation.
