What You'll Do: Champion Safety.
Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with OSHA and Vulcan standards. Perform duties safely, responsibly, and proficiently.
Conduct Testing. Inspect, sample, and conduct routine and special laboratory testing on construction materials in conformance with appropriate standard test methods. Perform tests to ensure quality of products during production, shipping, and at job sites.
Review Test Results. Review, monitor, and maintain the test results of the data and adjust blends when required. Review material quality test results for conformance (per ASTM, AASHTO and appropriate DOT procedures) in order to meet Vulcan's standards for quality products. Communicate test results to supervisors, plant personnel. Ensure proper documentation of results in the QC database.
Prepare Reports. Prepare submittals and statistical summary quality reports on Pacific Asphalt Distribution products.
Certifications. Maintain certifications in various test methods for testing asphalt binder. Achieve and maintain AASHTO Resource certification for the lab in Irwindale, certify the Mojave site as a satellite lab. Achieve certification from Asphalt Institute for binder technician.
Troubleshoot. Perform troubleshooting of field and jobsite problems. Visually inspect material sources at the liquid asphalt plant. Troubleshoot problem jobs and specifications.
Champion Continuous Improvement. Stay abreast of professional and technical developments in order to maintain and improve the skills and knowledge needed for superior job performance and to help improve operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Skills You'll Need:
Education. Must have your high school diploma or its equivalent. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Experience. Five years of construction materials testing experience to include aggregates and asphalt preferred. Must possess superior working knowledge and skill in aggregates and /or asphalt.
Testing Knowledge. Individuals must be skilled in basic ASTM, AASHTO, Asphalt Institute and CALTRANS testing procedures applicable to our complete product line. Must be knowledgeable in product related specifications and finished products.
Interpersonal Skills. Must have strong verbal communications skills for interacting with plant production personnel, plant managers, sales personnel, customers, and agency representatives.
Analytical Skills. Skill in general statistical analysis, math, and engineering concepts is preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, Oracle Business Environment, and other software packages relevant to the position.
Time Management Skills. Must have the ability to perform material testing in an orderly, efficient, and accurate manner.
Flexibility. Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
Travel requirement. Must have a valid driver's license. This position requires 30% to 40% travel in company vehicle.

Salary Range. The base salary range for this role is between $70,000 - $85,000 annual salary. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate's compensation, we consider a number of factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
