Reports to: Pre-Weigh Supervisor


Position Summary 6AM-2:30PM with some overtime

The Pre-Weigh Batching Technician plays a critical role in supporting production by accurately weighing, preparing, and staging ingredients required for manufacturing. This position works closely with the Production Manager and Kettle Supervisor to ensure materials are prepared and available to support on-time production schedules. Responsibilities include reading manufacturing orders to determine ingredient requirements, weighing and documenting materials and lot numbers, preparing labels, and staging ingredients for production. The role maintains accurate production records and inventory of raw materials while ensuring ingredient storage and weigh room areas remain organized, clean, and compliant with food safety standards. The Pre-Weigh Batching Technician follows all regulatory requirements, including FDA guidelines, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures, while adhering to safety and quality standards. This position also supports waste management, inventory control, and other operational needs, with flexibility to work overtime, evenings, and weekends as required to meet production and customer demands.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to FDA and other regulatory guidelines on raw materials, mixtures and end-result product.
  • Places loose or packaged material on scales and adds or removes portions of material to obtain specified weight as required.
  • Weighs ingredients and records weights and lot numbers on manufacturing orders.
  • Reads manufacturing order or formula to determine types and quantities of materials to weigh.
  • Assesses material requirements for orders to determine if everything needed is available to make the mixes.
  • Calculates number of full containers, sacks, cartons, drums, etc., and partial weight containers that must be weighted out for all ingredients to cover mix requirements.
  • Records weights of materials used for production records and maintains perpetual inventory of materials used and on hand.
  • Prepares labels as required by manufacturing orders.
  • Re-weighs remaining ingredient containers and records new weight, lot number, and date on outside before sealing and replacing into storage.
  • Transfers weighed materials to production or storage areas.
  • Stages full and partial containers on pallets for each manufacturing order.
  • Maintains organized and clutter-free ingredient storage area.
  • Ensures and maintains a clean weigh room per requirements.
  • Ensures that all waste is disposed of or recycled as required.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements.
  • Observe all safety, PPE, and quality procedures while completing required tasks.
  • Report any food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to work overtime. Available for evening and weekend hours if needed to fulfill customer requirements.


Required Qualifications

  • Ability to follow SOPs and GMP guidelines accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality standards.
  • Basic arithmetic skills for measuring and weighing materials; ability to use a calculator.
  • Good reading and comprehension skills to understand bulk-manufacturing documentation.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Flexible, with the ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Willingness to contribute new ideas and suggestions for improvement.
  • Two years batching and formulating experience preferred.
  • Required to have a forklift certification or ability to receive certification.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.


Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs consistently during the shift.
  • Ability to push, pull, twist, reach and balance frequently during the shift.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
