About the Internship

MOCAD’s Communications & Marketing Internship offers emerging arts and culture professionals hands-on experience in storytelling, audienced engagement, and digital content creation within a dynamic contemporary art museum. Located in Detroit’s cultural corridor, MOCAD presents boundary-pushing exhibitions, public programming, and community-driven initiatives. This offers a solid start to a career in marketing and communications supported and managed by experienced mentor and MOCAD’s Communications + Marketing Manager Liz Lewin. 

Responsibilities & Duties

Content Creation & Social Media

  • Develop engaging content for social media
  • Create reels, posts, and short-form video
  • Contribute creative campaign ideas

Writing & Communications

  • Offer support in drafting copy for media press releases and media alerts ahead related to exhibition openings and programming
  • Draft creative copy for social media captions, newsletters, and other necessary marketing materials

Visual Content Production

  • Photography and video editing (preferred)
  • Document exhibitions and events

Marketing & Audience Engagement

  • Research trends and engagement
  • Assist with analytics tracking

Administrative Support

  • Maintain social media content calendar
  • Organize + assemble media kits
  • Provide onsite event support (as needed)
Requirements

Educational Qualifications

• Junior/Senior college student

• Marketing, PR, or related field

• Eligible for college credit

Preferred Skills

• Strong writing

• Strong Social media skills & content creation 

• Photography (preferred)

• Editing skills (preferred)

• Passion for arts & culture

Commitment 

• Ideally 2-3 days per week (will accommodate intern’s academic schedule)

• Average 15-20 hours per week
