Job description

We are currently seeking a talented individual to become a A/V Technician. An individual could be successful if they possess the following.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The AV Technician is responsible for set up and operating audio and video equipment including microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards, and related electronic equipment for concerts, events, meetings and conventions, presentations, and conferences. May also set up and operate associated spotlights and other custom lighting systems. The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:
  • Daily Checks, adjustments and maintenance of audio and video equipment in the building, infield and barn areas.
  • Responsible for video monitor storage and providing replacement as failures occur throughout the building and other areas.
  • Provides and sets up audio and video equipment required for special events.
  • Responsible for storage of equipment in a safe and dry matter while it is not in use.
  • Will support and seek support of others in the department as additional help is needed to accomplish tasks and resolve emergencies.
  • Troubleshoot A/V failures to determine if failures are cable or equipment related.
  • Installation, service, testing, troubleshooting, or programming of numerous Audio-Visual Systems.
  • Oversee operations and maintenance of systems in venues as needed.
  • Coordinate with other departments and internal/external guests to ensure all AV needs are met and events occur without incident.
  • Ensures all duties are performed to Oaklawn's Standards of Behavior and Core Values.
  • Carry out regular preventative room checks, ensuring all equipment functions correctly in accordance with the room check procedures, including morning, evening, monthly and lamp life check.
  • Proactive maintenance/reporting to ensure all AV equipment is always of the highest standard and functioning correctly.
  • Carry out all power down/up when required, usually involving out of hours overtime commitments.
  • Maintain an accurate portable AV equipment asset inventory.
  • Managing designated video conference & audio-visual facilities, systems maintenance, operations and administration of client standards of video, audio and web conferencing services.
  • Program and update Monitors and adjusts Television programming, music selections, and in-house programming in public and back of house areas.
  • Maintains an attitude & philosophy consistent with the company Core Values and Standards of Behavior with internal & external guests
  • Interact with guest during A/V equipment setup.
  • Working knowledge of hanging a flat screen TV and/or speakers.
  • Understanding of cable routing.
  • Pulling of wire in conduit.
  • Erect and tear down scaffolding as needed.
  • Ability to work in elevated spaces.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • 3+ years' experience in position with similar responsibilities
  • Excellent technical knowledge of teleconferencing, presentation and other AV hardware.
  • Mechanically and electronically inclined.
  • Knowledge of proper cabling installation and termination procedures
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Working knowledge of audio and visual conference room equipment.
  • Experience on multiple operating system platforms (Windows and/or Mac).
  • Data/LCD & HD projection, sound, integrated control systems and video conferencing, telephone conferencing equipment and presentation software.
  • ISDN, VoIP and other telecommunications networks and equivalent.
  • Experience with Q-SYS, Dante, and Samsung Reach software.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively and often independently.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms.
  • Must be able to handle several projects and tasks at the same time.
  • Must have the ability to interact with guests, staff and colleagues and resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in in English may also be required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have acceptable driving history as determined by Oaklawn Jockey Club.
