Rapid7 is seeking a VP, AI to define and drive our global artificial intelligence strategy across our entire product portfolio and internal operations. Sitting at the intersection of applied machine learning research, product innovation, and go-to-market strategy, this role serves as the primary owner of AI capabilities within the Rapid7 Command Platform. About the Role
As the Vice President, Artificial Intelligence, you will report directly to the Chief Product and Technology Officer and own the vision for Rapid7's AI future. You will shape and execute a multi-year strategy that embeds AI across our full product portfolio and optimizes our internal operations.
Your core focus will be to:
  • Define and own the multi-year AI strategy spanning generative AI, agentic workflows, machine learning-based detection, and responsible AI governance.
  • Build and maintain a compelling AI product roadmap aligned to the Rapid7 Command Platform including Exposure Command, InsightIDR, and managed detection and response services.
  • Build and lead a high-performing AI organization, defining the team structure, roles, and capabilities needed to execute Rapid7's AI strategy as it evolves.
  • Drive the development of large language model-powered and agentic capabilities like AI-generated risk summaries and autonomous security operations center workflows.
  • Partner with Rapid7 SOC teams to integrate threat intelligence data into AI models for adversary-aware vulnerability prioritization and detection.
  • Establish robust machine learning operations practices, model governance, and responsible artificial intelligence frameworks across all features.
  • Serve as an external thought leader and executive spokesperson for Rapid7 with analysts, customers, and at major industry conferences.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Customer Success to translate sophisticated AI capabilities into measurable business outcomes for cybersecurity leaders.

The skills and qualities you'll bring include:
  • Bring 12+ years of progressive experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning, with at least 5 years in a senior executive leadership role within a SaaS or cybersecurity company.
  • Demonstrate a proven track record of successfully building and shipping AI-powered products at scale, including generative AI, large language model integration, and agentic systems.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the cybersecurity domain, including threat detection, vulnerability management, exposure management, or managed services markets.
  • Exhibit expert ability to lead, mentor, and grow cross-functional teams of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and specialized product managers.
  • Show strategic doing by breaking down complex, multi-year research and product visions into time-bound milestones, executing quickly, and pivoting where necessary to achieve meaningful outcomes.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration by building a global network and working seamlessly across organizational boundaries to deliver sustainable improvements that create customer value.
  • Practice accountability by holding self and teams responsible for driving high-quality product delivery and meeting business commitments within clear timelines.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex artificial intelligence concepts and roadmap rationale to foster commitment from board members and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Maintain technical fluency with machine learning frameworks, cloud AI platforms, large language models, prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented generation architectures.
  • Apply a strong understanding of model monitoring, machine learning operations, and AI observability in production environments to ensure system reliability and explainability.

United States: $322,200.00 - 435,900.00 USD Annual
