Vice President of Engineering Position Summary The Vice President of Engineering is a key executive leader responsible for overseeing all engineering, product development, and technical operations related to the design and manufacture of steel storage products. This role is a succession position and will work alongside the current Vice President of Engineering. The successful candidate will be empowered to come in and instill best practices and make changes. This role ensures engineering excellence, drives innovation, strengthens manufacturing capabilities, and supports the company’s long‑term strategic goals. The VP of Engineering will partner closely with operations and commercial teams, and champion continuous improvement across all technical functions.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and execute the engineering strategy aligned with company objectives, market needs, and operational capabilities.
  • Drive innovation in steel storage product design, manufacturing processes, and material utilization to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on long‑term capital planning, technology roadmaps, and capacity expansion.
  • Lead and mentor engineering teams across design, manufacturing engineering, quality, maintenance/reliability, and project engineering.
  • Ensure engineering projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet cost and performance targets.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, documentation practices, and technical governance.
Product Development & Improvement
  • Oversee the development and enhancement of steel storage products, ensuring they meet customer requirements, industry standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Champion value engineering and cost‑optimization initiatives to improve margins and manufacturability.
  • Lead root‑cause analysis and problem‑solving for product performance, production issues, and reliability concerns.
Manufacturing & Process Excellence
  • Partner with Operations to optimize production processes, equipment performance, and throughput.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and advanced manufacturing methodologies.
  • Support capital equipment specification, sourcing, installation, and commissioning.
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure engineering practices comply with applicable safety, environmental, and industry standards for steel manufacturing.
  • Oversee quality engineering, including corrective actions, testing protocols, and product validation.
  • Implement systems to ensure consistent product performance and reduce scrap, rework, and downtime.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Sales, Supply Chain, and Operations to align engineering capabilities with customer demands and production capacity.
  • Support customer interactions related to technical requirements, product performance, and customization.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or an MBA preferred.
Experience
  • 10–15+ years of engineering leadership in a steel manufacturing environment or closely related metals/industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Proven success managing large engineering teams and leading complex technical programs.
  • Experience with steel fabrication processes such as welding, forming, machining, cutting, coating, and assembly.
  • Strong background in Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and implementing automation.
  • Deep understanding of steel materials, mechanical properties, and structural applications.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and change‑management skills.
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including budgeting and ROI analysis.
