Job description


Objective

The Associate Vice President will support the Market VP in overall market growth (revenue and profit) related to Modern’s areas of expertise. This role has a direct impact on realizing Modern’s vision of ‘Building for the Next Generation’ by implementing its mission of ‘Growth Through Exceptional Delivery’.

The Associate Vice President has shared responsibility for all project managers, field foremen, and project administrative support while also working hand-in-hand with functional support areas to enable successful collaboration across the organization. This role is also responsible for taking care of Modern’s customers and being the face of Modern to the local community by building strong relationships and rapport with others.

The Associate Vice President upholds Modern’s Core Values of Integrity, Service, Leadership, Empowerment, and Innovation while demonstrating a dedicated and results-driven work ethic. This individual demonstrates a commitment to building strong internal and external relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Revenue and Profit Contribution

· Drive business development efforts in securing adequate backlog to support on-going business operations and profitability

· Help to develop business plan budget and track performance vs actual results to ensure market team is on track to deliver to plan

· Monitor overhead efficiency by tracking budgeted overhead to actual overhead expenditures

· Manage indirect costs to ensure overhead alignment with volume

· Assist in managing positive cash flow

· Collaborate with Market VP to monitor margin gain and fade, maximizing gain and minimizing fade

· Monitor and take corrective action where necessary to ensure high levels of productivity

o Labor productivity

o General conditions productivity

o Equipment utilization (where applicable)

Risk Management

· Complete contract reviews on all major projects ($500K or above)

· Execute work safely by collaborating with Safety Department

· Ensure all subcontractors in use have appropriate insurance and contracts

Industry and Community Leadership

· Participate in association training, social and networking events

· Active community involvement in the form of volunteering, board seats, etc.

· Active participation in trade associations

· Maintain positive labor relations with all unions

Process Compliance

· Demonstrate consistent application and high quality outcomes of critical preplanning process and tools

· Familiarize and eventually complete monthly WIP cost projection review

· Help to ensure timely and comprehensive change control

· Learn and ensure a high level of utilization with Vista and other project management technologies

· Ensure adequate monthly billing

· Ensure timely collections

· Deliver project to customers with a high level of quality and customer satisfaction

Personnel and Recruiting

· Establish context for the work of individual team members

· Coach team members in task assignments

· Coach groups of team members in project task assignments

· Assess the effectiveness of individual team members related to work (problem solving, decision making, etc.) and make necessary promotions, moves to other opportunities

· Develop team members for career growth and retention

Supervisory Responsibilities

· Collaborate with Market VP, project management team, field foremen, project administrative staff, and other operational support teams across Modern; performs ongoing training, mentoring, and feedback to ensure the highest levels of performance

Qualifications and Education Requirements

· Strong preference for bachelor’s degree or commensurate business experience

· 10+ Years of Project Management Experience

· Experience leading MEP teams and/or operations
