Senior Vice President – Mainframe Infrastructure Engineer

Overview

BNY is seeking an experienced Senior Vice President, Infrastructure Engineer to join our Mainframe Services organization based in New York, NY or Jersey City, NJ. This role is responsible for the engineering, support, stability, resiliency, and continuous improvement of a large-scale enterprise mainframe environment that supports critical business services across the firm.

The successful candidate will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for maintaining highly available production systems, driving operational excellence, supporting modernization initiatives, and ensuring the reliability of one of the industry's most critical computing platforms.

This position requires deep technical expertise, strong operational leadership, and the ability to work across engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, application support, and infrastructure teams.

Primary Responsibilities

Infrastructure Engineering & Platform Support

  • Provide senior-level support and engineering expertise for IBM Mainframe infrastructure and associated technologies.
  • Maintain platform stability, availability, performance, and resiliency across production and non-production environments.
  • Support system software upgrades, maintenance activities, platform enhancements, and lifecycle management initiatives.
  • Perform complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis for infrastructure and platform-related issues.
  • Lead recovery efforts during critical incidents and major outage situations.
  • Develop and maintain operational procedures, technical documentation, and support standards.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, automation, and risk reduction.
  • Support capacity planning, performance tuning, and infrastructure optimization activities.
  • Monitor platform health and proactively identify operational risks.
  • Partner with service management teams to improve incident, problem, and change management processes.
  • Ensure operational readiness for new technologies and platform enhancements.

Technology Strategy & Modernization

  • Support long-term technology strategies focused on resiliency, modernization, automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry best practices.
  • Participate in infrastructure transformation initiatives and platform optimization efforts.
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, monitoring, and engineering processes.

Risk & Control Management

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise risk management standards and technology controls.
  • Support audit activities, regulatory examinations, and control reviews.
  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and resiliency exercises.
  • Maintain adherence to cybersecurity and operational risk requirements.

Technical Leadership

  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership across cross-functional initiatives.
  • Partner with senior technology leaders on strategic priorities and operational improvements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for mainframe infrastructure technologies.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 12+ years of infrastructure engineering experience within large enterprise environments.
  • 8+ years of hands-on IBM Mainframe engineering and support experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting mission-critical production platforms operating in a 24x7 environment.
  • Experience managing complex technical incidents and operational recovery events.
  • Experience working within highly regulated financial services or similarly complex industries preferred.

  • Experience leading enterprise-wide infrastructure projects.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Industry certifications are a plus.
