Vice President - Legal
Location: Brookwood, Alabama | Department: Legal
Lead Legal Strategy for a Premier Metallurgical Coal Producer
Warrior Met Coal is seeking a Vice President - Legal to serve as the Company's chief legal advisor and a key member of the executive leadership team. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, this role leads all legal affairs, providing strategic counsel on operations, governance, risk management, regulatory compliance, commercial transactions, litigation, and growth initiatives.
You will partner closely with leaders across operations, HR, safety, environmental, engineering, and finance to support business objectives while managing legal risk and protecting long-term shareholder value.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Legal Leadership
  • Advise executive leadership on legal, regulatory, governance, and business matters.
  • Support strategic decision-making and risk management.
  • Align legal strategy with operational and growth objectives.

Governance, Risk & Compliance
  • Oversee compliance across mining, environmental, labor, employment, safety, and corporate regulations.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and mitigate enterprise risk.
  • Promote ethical conduct and accountability throughout the organization.

Commercial & Strategic Transactions
  • Lead legal support for contracts, negotiations, financing activities, acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Structure agreements that balance business objectives and legal protections.

Litigation Management
  • Oversee employment, environmental, commercial, property, and regulatory litigation.
  • Manage outside counsel and legal expenditures.
  • Advise leadership on litigation strategy and dispute resolution.

Enterprise Support
  • Provide counsel on permitting, land and mineral rights, environmental matters, and labor relations.
  • Partner with business leaders to support operations and compliance.
  • Assist with investigations, critical incidents, and enterprise risk initiatives.

Legal Department Leadership
  • Lead and develop legal talent.
  • Improve legal processes and governance frameworks.
  • Build strong partnerships across the organization.

Qualifications
Required
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
  • 15+ years of progressive legal experience.
  • Senior leadership experience in a corporate legal department or law firm.
  • Experience supporting a publicly traded company, including SEC, governance, and securities law matters.
  • Expertise in regulatory compliance, commercial transactions, labor and employment law, litigation management, and risk management.
  • Strong business judgment and ability to translate legal issues into practical solutions.

Preferred
  • Experience as a General Counsel, Chief Legal Officer, Deputy General Counsel, or similar executive legal leader.
  • Background in mining, energy, natural resources, manufacturing, or other industrial sectors.
  • Experience with MSHA, OSHA, EPA, NLRB, EEOC, and related agencies.
  • Knowledge of mining permitting, environmental compliance, and mineral rights.
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, strategic transactions, or major capital projects.
