Job Description:

Role Overview

We are seeking a Principal Product Manager to lead the software and platform strategy for HPE Private Cloud Business Edition (PC3000). This is a senior, high-impact role responsible for defining and driving the long-term vision for the PC3000 software stack-including hypervisor, container platforms, and cloud management layers-while guiding cross-functional teams toward clear business outcomes.

This position is designed for a self-driven, experienced product leader who thrives in ambiguity, brings solutions rather than problems, and makes informed, opinionated decisions that grow the customer footprint and the PC3000 business. You will act as the primary product authority for software platforms, interfacing with engineering, component product teams, sales, and customers-from IT administrators to Director and VP-level stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Software & Platform Strategy

  • Lead and develop the long-term, multi-year software and platform roadmap for PC3000, translating leadership-defined strategy into actionable features, epics, and release plans.
  • Own the end-to-end software platform direction-hypervisor strategy, container enablement, and cloud management (Morpheus)-ensuring architectural coherence and market competitiveness.
  • Make informed, opinionated decisions on software platform direction that expand the customer footprint and drive PC3000 business growth.
  • Translate business needs into well-scoped feature requirements that directly support revenue growth, competitive positioning, and customer retention.
  • Continuously evaluate competitive landscape-including VMware/Broadcom, Nutanix, Azure Stack, Red Hat, and others-and incorporate competitive intelligence into roadmap priorities.
  • Interface with component product teams, including HPE Morpheus, to drive PC3000 software strategy and requirements into those teams' backlogs and delivery plans.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Guide cross-functional core teams toward a shared understanding of business requirements, platform strategy, and delivery priorities.
  • Manage hypervisor and container platform implementation across engineering, architecture, QA, and operations teams.
  • Serve as the central coordination point between PC3000 product management and component product organizations (Morpheus, ProLiant, Alletra, networking).
  • Take strategy defined by PC3000 leadership and build execution plans-breaking strategic direction into features, epics, and measurable outcomes.
  • Drive alignment without direct authority across engineering, sales, finance, and support organizations.

Customer & Market Engagement

  • Drive customer conversations with enthusiasm and credibility, helping customers get excited about the product direction and roadmap.
  • Engage directly with customers ranging from IT administrators to Director and VP-level decision-makers.
  • Present the PC3000 roadmap and overall vision at Executive Briefing Centers (EBCs), customer sites, and industry events-both remotely and in-person.
  • Synthesize customer feedback, field insights, and market signals into roadmap refinements and strategic recommendations.

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Work with and mentor other product managers on the team to propagate understanding of software features, platform strategy, and competitive positioning.
  • Raise the bar on strategic thinking, technical depth, and executive communication across the product management organization.
  • Contribute to best practices for platform-level product management within HPE Private Cloud.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in product management, platform strategy, or technical leadership roles within enterprise infrastructure or cloud environments.
  • Senior-level product management experience with demonstrated ability to own and execute platform-scale strategy.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with VMware platforms, including VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF), VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), and the Aria suite.
  • Strong competitive intelligence across enterprise infrastructure-including Nutanix, Microsoft Azure Stack, Red Hat OpenShift / Virtualization, and comparable platforms.
  • Proven ability to translate business strategy into feature-level requirements and multi-year roadmaps.
  • Self-driven problem solver who operates with high autonomy and brings solutions-not problems-to leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present confidently to audiences from technical IT staff to Director/VP-level executives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with HPE Morpheus (cloud management and orchestration platform).
  • Proficiency with product management tooling: Jira, Aha!, and Confluence.
  • Experience with VMware NSX (network virtualization and micro-segmentation).
  • MBA or advanced technical degree.
  • Experience in private cloud, hybrid cloud, or hyperconverged infrastructure product management.
  • Track record of managing platform transitions (e.g., hypervisor migration, multi-vendor environments).

Travel

This role requires 15-25% travel, including customer visits, internal strategy meetings, Executive Briefing Centers (EBCs), and industry trade shows. Travel may be domestic or international and includes both in-person and hybrid engagements.
