Job Summary and Qualifications

The Vice President (VP) of Engineering is accountable for architecting and refining the FacilitiGroup routine capital re-investment program and providing strategic direction and oversight for the engineering team (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation). This leader also provides oversight for the disaster response and special projects teams. This executive also leads the day-to-day execution of the enterprise-wide Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions reduction project for acute care hospital energy consumption.

The leader is responsible for developing and executing enterprise-wide strategy and implementation of short- and long-term capital plans, providing data-driven guidance and investment strategies. This key leader will identify strategic opportunities to drive improved key performance indicators across multiple parameters including care experience, quality, operations, and finance. This position leads development and implementation of initiatives that support operational improvement and expense management through the standardization of processes, technology, and service excellence.

The VP of Engineering builds strategic alliances with HCA Corporate, Division and Facility leadership, Supply Chain and HealthTrust leadership and facility-based support services department directors for successful execution of services.

What you will do in this role:

Leadership

  • Strategically develops thoughtful approach to initiatives and deployment through stakeholder assessments
  • Establishes strategies and processes for operations support side of FacilitiGroup
  • Executes the strategies and initiatives of the Vice President of FacilitiGroup
  • Aligns team(s) with Engineering Operations as well as departments outside of FacilitiGroup
  • Helps team members with professional development
  • Aligns team members’ individual strengths with the needs of the Engineering Department
  • Identifies opportunities to use new technologies to improve efficiency and helps to coordinate across departments as needed

Capital Reinvestment

  • Partners with VP - FacilitiGroup to develop systems to optimize efficiency of capital reinvestment for facility infrastructure, including accountability for more than $400M budget
  • Develops processes and policies required for governance and for operational efficiency
  • Makes the business case and secures funding from CAMS for capital reserves and for special projects
  • Leads prioritization of capital improvement needs including those for BAS and electrical infrastructure projects
  • Responsible for meeting annual cash spend targets and completion dates

Engineering

  • Sets strategies related to engineering design, performance, and operational standards
  • Coordinates team efforts with Planning, Design & Construction, Corporate Emergency Operations, and FacilitiGroup operations team

Special Initiatives

  • Responsible for successful execution of the major corporate-wide capital environmental performance (EP) programs – LED retrofits, chiller replacements, and airside system upgrade project
  • Responsible for coordination with all teams including Tax & Incentives, Corporate Sustainability, Supply Chain, Accounting, Physical Security, etc. on the major EP Scope 1 and Scope 2 initiatives, including all demand initiatives.
  • Collaborate and partner with AVP Environmental Sustainability and AVP Finance to meet organizational objectives around environmental performance.
  • Required to coordinate and provide technical expertise on EP supply-side initiatives
  • Responsible for analytics and accurate representation of status and KPIs on EP dashboards
  • Integral to communications including regular reporting to senior leadership
  • Thought leadership and proactive guidance role in driving effective management of system energy spend ($340M).

Qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree – Required
  • MBA or Master’s degree – Preferred
  • Minimum ten years in engineering design or construction with a minimum of three-year(s) leadership experience - Required
  • Experience in communicating verbally and written with senior leadership - Required
  • Experience in using MS Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel - Required
  • Experience in using eBuilder, MS Office, MS Planner, MS Sharepoint – Preferred
  • Experience in Healthcare Setting – Preferred
  • Mechanical Engineer – Preferred
  • Certified Energy Manager – Preferred
