Job description

Hope House, a Preble Street low-barrier shelter located in Bangor, Maine, provides shelter and intensive services to individuals experiencing homelessness in a 24-hour trauma-informed environment grounded in social work best practices.

Hope House Per Diem Staff participate in and perform direct service shift activities and duties, with guidance and task direction provided by full-time and part-time staff and management. Per Diem staff support programs by providing shift coverage, outreaching and engaging with clients to provide and facilitate access to services, maintaining safety within the program spaces, monitoring security of the building, and providing crisis intervention and support.

Population Served: Individuals experiencing homelessness.

Preferred: Bachelorโ€™s degree in social work or related field of study, or comparable combination of education and relevant experience.ย 

Required skills and knowledge include:

  • Understanding of the Preble Street mission, harm reduction, and social and economic justice including the role of policy advocacy throughout all programs and positions.
  • Understanding and positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness and/or living in poverty.
  • Understanding of low-barrier services and related challenges.

Compensation

The starting hourly rate of pay for per diem staff is $21.62ย plus applicable shift differentials of $2.00 or $1.00 per hour when working in 24/7 programs: In addition to the base rate of pay, direct service staff in 24/7 programs earn an additional $2.00 per hour for hours worked between 10 pm and 7 am or $1.00 per hour for hours worked between the hours of 7 am and 10 pm.

As Per diem Staff may work up to 28 hours per week, have flexible schedules, and earn PTO based on hours worked.
