What you'll be doing...
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Process Assurance team is responsible for partnering with Business and IT leaders to ensure processes and controls are effectively managed to mitigate financial, operational, and regulatory risks.
Reporting directly to the Sr. Director of ERM Process Assurance, you will serve as a frontline transformation leader. Our risk landscape is evolving rapidly, and this role requires a strategic architect who can shift our operational posture from reactive problem-solving to proactive risk mitigation. You will lead efforts assessing major system integrations, tech migrations, and business process changes, designing smarter, faster, and more scalable control environments before risks materialize.
Operating within a highly dynamic matrix organization, you will take a holistic view of the ERM landscape. You will manage a fluid team of risk professionals, deploying resources dynamically not just for your own initiatives, but to support peer Associate Directors and address enterprise-wide capacity needs.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Strategic Transformation: Driving the team toward proactive risk identification and mitigation, utilizing automation, data analytics, and smarter methodologies to outpace the evolving risk landscape.
  • Matrix Leadership & Capacity Management: Leading and developing a team of direct reports in a fluid resource model. You will dynamically allocate your team's capacity to support broader Process Assurance initiatives, helping peers address staffing shortages and ensuring high-priority enterprise risks are covered.
  • Executive Communication: Acting as a delegate for the Sr. Director and AVP, requiring the ability to synthesize complex risk narratives, prepare executive-level collateral, and confidently present strategic recommendations to SVP+ leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Breaking down silos and partnering across Verizon's technology, security, and business teams to evaluate regulatory risks and process design impacts.
  • Core Process Assurance: Directing the assessment of IT risks within Business Processes (interfaces, automated controls), testing System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) controls for new implementations, and overseeing the development of comprehensive process flow diagrams.
  • Team Development & Morale: Acting as a stabilizing force during periods of high demand and transformation, coaching professional staff, and maintaining high team morale and engagement.
  • External Alignment: Coordinating with Verizon's external auditors to ensure alignment on key risk areas and the sufficiency of designed controls.

What we're looking for...
You are a strategic thinker and a cross-functional diplomat who understands how to navigate a massive, matrixed organization. You possess high emotional intelligence and can rally a team through periods of transformation and high workload. You are a ruthless prioritizer who knows how to separate critical enterprise risks from low-impact noise. You get personal satisfaction from breaking down complex operational bottlenecks, anticipating issues before they occur, and delivering solutions that make business processes fundamentally stronger.
You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
  • Deep institutional knowledge of Verizon's operational landscape, organizational structure, and internal ERM methodologies.
  • Proven experience managing teams, mentoring staff, and dynamically allocating resources in a fluid, fast-paced environment.
  • Extensive experience designing and testing internal controls (Business Process and ITGCs), and assessing the impact of system migrations.
  • Exceptional executive communication skills, with a track record of preparing and delivering presentations to senior leadership

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • A Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • Professional certification (CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience leveraging technical solutions, automation (e.g., Google Workspace ecosystem, Apps Script), or data visualization tools (Looker, Tableau) to streamline team operations and capacity bottlenecks.
  • Strong understanding of the impact of AI and emerging technologies on the IT and Business process control environment.
  • Experience driving complex solutions to provide ongoing and automated monitoring of key risks

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every "even better" qualification listed above.
