What you'll be doing...
Represent Technology Product and Development (TPD) in authoring design, systems and software solutions for customer, infrastructure circuits and test, detect, diagnose network faults and performance issues. Apply network and software technologies to solve complex issues occurring in operating state-of-the-art telecommunication networks. Deliver robust, scalable, and manageable application solutions. Analyze and implement new and evolving technologies in layer 1 and layer 2 networking, and associated vendor specific implementations to provide state-of-the-art technical solutions to activate, discovery of network, transform and migrate services from legacy to next generation network and services. Responsible for disseminating the knowledge to all levels of the organization including cross-functional stakeholders, senior management, and to peers and mid-level engineers. Ensure alignment with industry best practices. Design and develop capabilities to support next generation network activation, testing, in-home device management functions using cloud technologies, network protocols and advanced network technologies. Perform hands-on coding work on complex business solutions, develop new ideas and propose innovative solutions. Provide technical consultation and guidance for solutions, infrastructure planning and NS software development teams, and mentor developers to perform at a higher technical level. Lead the effort to implement a robust, efficient and scalable solution for large scale Verizon FWA and FIOS routers ensuring the router device management and firmware upgrade seamlessly transition using latest broadband technologies. Represent Verizon in PRPL forums to drive industry best practices and standards. Establish success KPIs and metrics for router builds and frequent pain points to take proactive measures. Design and develop capabilities to support next-generation network activation, testing, and troubleshooting functions.
What we're looking for...
Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and 6 years of progressive, postbaccalaureate experience in the job offered or as a Principal Engineer-Software Development, Senior Software Engineer, or in a related/similar position. Experience therein to include 6 years performing each of the following skills:
Software development, solution delivery on next generation network activation, testing, troubleshooting functions using network management and routing protocols;
Delivering system-based solutions in network provisioning and configuration for network technologies such as GPON, ROADM and Carrier Ethernet;
Programming in C++, SQL, Python, Shell Scripting, Perl Scripting, Core Java, and J2EE;
Design patterns using JSTL, Singleton, MVC, Business Delegate, DAO, DTO, and Session Façade;
Using Web Services including Rest and SOAP;
Working with Cloud Technologies including Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon RDS, AWS Lambda, Amazon SQS, Elastic Bean Stalk, and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service;
Providing solutions using device Management Protocols such as TR069 and TR143; and
Working with DevOps tools including Maven, GIT, Jenkins, JIRA and Ansible.
