This role partners closely with Production Engineering (PE), Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE), Production, Quality, and PMC teams to establish standardized rework processes, improve yield performance, reduce scrap, and drive continuous improvement across manufacturing operations. The Production Support Engineer provides technical leadership for rework activities, develops operating procedures, implements process controls, and supports the successful introduction of new products and technologies into production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Process Development & Standardization

  • Lead the development, implementation, and standardization of manufacturing rework processes.
  • Collaborate with Production Engineering to establish and maintain internal process controls related to rework activities.
  • Partner with Supplier Quality Engineering to develop and maintain supplier-related rework processes and controls.
  • Create, revise, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Ensure proper change management practices are followed for all new or revised production and rework processes.
  • Support new product introductions by developing rework procedures and process standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze production and rework performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that improve rework cycle times, increase efficiency, and reduce overall manufacturing costs.
  • Drive yield improvement projects focused on reducing defects, scrap, and non-conforming material.
  • Utilize root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies to resolve recurring process issues.
  • Recommend and implement best practices that improve operational effectiveness and product quality.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance for rework operations across production and quality teams.
  • Support internal and external rework activities, including field, supplier, and customer-related containment actions.
  • Coordinate production rework priorities in alignment with production plans and business objectives.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement equipment and tooling improvements that enhance rework capabilities and efficiency.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for rework processes, process controls, and manufacturing troubleshooting.

Training & Development

  • Develop and deliver technical training programs for production personnel and rework technicians.
  • Train employees on new processes, equipment, SOPs, and quality requirements.
  • Support workforce capability development through hands-on coaching and knowledge sharing.
  • Promote adherence to safety, quality, and operational standards.

Operational Support

  • Perform hands-on production and rework activities when necessary to support business needs.
  • Track and quantify rework labor hours and support chargeback documentation related to supplier quality issues.
  • Support cross-functional teams in resolving production inefficiencies and quality concerns.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with company safety, quality, and environmental requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing, production engineering, process engineering, quality engineering, or a related industrial environment.
  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with process improvement and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production operations, and industrial engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and waste reduction methodologies.
  • Experience with root cause analysis tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto Analysis, and Corrective Action processes.
  • Ability to develop SOPs, work instructions, process maps, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and training abilities.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive process improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of quality systems, process control methodologies, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data analysis tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering or production support experience.
  • Experience within battery manufacturing, automotive, electronics, energy storage, or other advanced manufacturing environments.
