Senior Hardware Engineer

Full Time Dallas, TX, US

Senior Hardware Engineer

About the Role:

As a Senior Hardware Engineer in the telecommunications industry, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of carrier‑grade hardware platforms that support voice, data, and network access services, including legacy POTS and modern telecom infrastructure. Your expertise will drive innovation and ensure the reliability, efficiency, and manufacturability of hardware systems from concept through production. You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including software engineers, product managers, and manufacturing specialists to align hardware solutions with overall product goals. This role demands a strategic thinker who can troubleshoot complex hardware issues and implement robust solutions that meet stringent quality and safety standards. Ultimately, your contributions will directly impact the performance and market success of our durable goods products, reinforcing our position as an industry leader in Texas and beyond.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in hardware design and development within durable goods or a related manufacturing sector.
  • Proficiency in hardware design tools such as CAD software and circuit simulation programs.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design, signal processing, and embedded systems.
  • Experience with hardware testing methodologies and compliance standards relevant to durable goods.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with FPGA design and programming.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and supply chain considerations in durable goods production.
  • Knowledge of industry‑specific safety and quality certifications (e.g., UL, ISO standards).
  • Design knowledge of telecom industry technologies, including Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) architecture, analog voice interfaces, subscriber line circuits, ringing and loop‑current requirements, on‑hook/off‑hook detection, impedance matching, surge/lightning protection, network infrastructure, carrier‑grade hardware requirements, and reliability considerations.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, prototype, and test hardware components and systems to meet product specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead hardware development projects, managing timelines, resources, and cross‑team communication to ensure successful delivery.
  • Analyze and resolve complex hardware issues through root cause analysis and iterative testing.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize hardware designs for cost‑effective and scalable production.
  • Document design processes, test results, and technical specifications to maintain comprehensive project records.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to foster team growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay current with emerging hardware technologies and industry trends to incorporate innovative solutions.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Senior Hardware Engineer to design, implement, simulate, and validate complex telecommunications hardware systems effectively, ensuring they meet functional, regulatory, reliability, and carrier‑grade requirements. Proficiency with schematic capture and hardware design tools such as Mentor Graphics Expedition xDX Designer supports accurate circuit definition and design documentation. Experience with Verilog, ModelSim SE, and FPGA development environments including Altera Quartus II, Quartus Prime, SignalTap II, Xilinx ISE, Vivado, Integrated Logic Analyzer/ChipScope, and Lattice Diamond is essential for modeling, simulation, implementation, timing analysis, debugging, and verification of programmable logic designs. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills are applied daily to diagnose hardware and FPGA issues, validate designs through iterative testing, and develop solutions that enhance product reliability and manufacturability. Familiarity with IBM Rational ClearCase for Verilog source control further supports disciplined configuration management, design traceability, and collaboration across engineering teams. Collaboration and communication skills are critical for working with cross‑disciplinary teams and mentoring junior engineers, while preferred skills such as FPGA programming and familiarity with manufacturing processes further enhance the engineer’s ability to deliver optimized, scalable telecom hardware solutions that align with business objectives.
