What is a VDC?

A VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) job involves using digital modeling tools and workflows to enhance the planning, design, and construction processes. Professionals in this field utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other technologies to improve collaboration, efficiency, and accuracy in construction projects. VDC roles can include BIM coordinators, VDC managers, and digital construction specialists, working closely with architects, engineers, and contractors.

What are the typical responsibilities of a VDC professional on a construction project?

VDC professionals are responsible for creating and managing digital models that represent every phase of a construction project, ensuring all stakeholders have accurate, up-to-date information. They coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors to identify and resolve potential design clashes, optimize construction sequences, and support decision-making with data-driven insights. Their work often involves conducting model reviews, leading coordination meetings, and updating documentation as the project progresses. This vital role helps minimize costly rework, promotes team collaboration, and keeps projects on schedule.
